There is a straw here somewhere that you can grab to defend President Obama's action... Your President didn't free them for being unfairly held--he said during the election that Gitmo needed to be closed but then backpedaled totally when he got in office. I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt and thinking maybe he actually figured out that these guys were monsters bent on destruction of all who oppose them, even their fellow Muslims, but especially U. S. citizens and friends. What he did was trade a few of them for a fellow who walked away from his base. One who now deserves to be investigated in order to figure how he came to be with the enemy. We'll see what happens from the investigation. Maybe he was lost. |

He set no date for closure. And he's still in office so it's not backpedaled yet. And his last State of the Union he reiterated his intent to close it.

Can he do anything right? Just one thing. C'mon, Barry. Just one thing.. If you take a risk, you may lose. If you never take a risk, you will always lose. |

So, because he wants to do it that is as good as doing it? Not how it works in the real world. War is peace. Freedom is slavery. Ignorance is strength |

She did so well with the whole Benghazi thing that the President promoted her. I wonder if promoting incompetence somehow helps him have more scapegoats around when things go bad... |

Too bad he didn't take this long to take care of the health care issue! He was only assured of one term as President when he won the election. That means that he needed to take action on the important things he ran on (like closing Gitmo) during the first term. I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt on this because I am betting they know more about these folks than they let on and that he found them to be much more dangerous when he had the information the President gets then the info he had during his short term as a Senator (most of which was spent campaigning; he may have missed briefings then, too). His hollow promise at the State of the Union was just to appease the base in an election year--those of you who are so convinced that he intends to keep his promises in the face of the odds against it (remember transparency, among others) would eat that promise up and get out to support the Dems. The promise will quickly be forgotten and will not be kept. I didn't agree with closing Gitmo, so I am not upset that it is still open and no real actions have been taken to close it. The President has angered two groups, though, with his empty promises--he angered the ones who do not want it closed by promising to do so and the ones who want it closed by promising and not doing. Maybe the double negative will become a positive? |

The old Congress caused the problem ploy...blame Bush, blame Congress, blame everyone but the President...maybe it will work. The fact remains that he had control of the Congress for two years upon entering office. If his party was so behind him on closing Gitmo (as they were on the ACA), he would have put it in motion then. It isn't like Congress could not be forced to work more or less based on the actions of leadership of those bodies. I don't expect much from any of you who support President Obama--I hold BOTH President Bush and President Obama (and maybe even further back than that) for the myriad of problems at the VA. Neither did enough about it. President Obama did not intend to do anything about it; it blew up in his face and he had to take action. His supporting more money for the program is not tantamount to wanting to fix it--throwing money at broken and corrupt programs does not fix anything. The thing about that little scandal is that the Dems tend to once again blame Bush and not Obama, while most of us with a clue blame at least both of them. President Obama has the "power of the pen" now; he actually had the power of control of two branches of the government when he entered office. He squandered the opportunity more than anyone wishes to admit. |
