I hold BOTH President Bush and President Obama (and maybe even further back than that) for the myriad of problems at the VA. Neither did enough about it.
By nature bureaucracies become unfixable once they reach critical mass. The VA is particularly entrenched and all the politicians are afraid of even thinking the right thing let alone doing it. When Shinseki issued the 14 day policy it played right into the bureaucrats' hands: Yay, a new game and we get big bonuses just for playing! The secretaries may have impressive resumes but they are absolutely stymied and even naive on their own departments' turf.

The right thing to do is to privatize VA healthcare and meld into the existing medical infrastructures. Won't happen in our lifetime. But if that were done, then follow up on the divide-and-conquer and address the benefits side. These things are a job for congress and there's no chance they have the stomach nor the capability to get 'er done. Just look who actually holds the mandate for running the USPS and the unspeakable mess resulting from their ham-handed tinkering. It is pathetic and embarrassing.

Congress has refused to do its job since the 1970s and baseline budgeting. Sadly nothing is going to get fixed as long as the USD can be printed at will. When they can't do that then they will actually have to make real choices. Until then they will just throw money, fire someone, and repeat.

His hollow promise at the State of the Union was just to appease the base in an election year--those of you who are so convinced that he intends to keep his promises in the face of the odds against it (remember transparency, among others) would eat that promise up and get out to support the Dems. The promise will quickly be forgotten and will not be kept.

Name the 239 promises he's fulfilled. You just choose to look at the glass half-empty.

Sure he's had a majority. Is ramming legislation through your actual preference? Then you must like the ACA. Do you prefer executive orders signed as a first resort. You must as far as your complaints go. Sounds like a lousy idea to use them as first recourse in most cases.

Sure Presidents might do more with a majority, despite the fact that all those Democratic Reps come from various states not representing actual unified interests. In other words, some favor more red state solutions, some are more blue. All have other things to consider than marching lock step with the President.

Oh yeah, people have complained that the President should just act, when in fact the same people on the red state side nearly complain about everything the President actually acts on anyway. So, who cares. They can stick their heads in their commodes and complain, because that is what their complaints are worth. Less than that actually, as literal crap is fertilizer.

I never figured out why you try to represent Democrat's interests anyway when you clearly don't speak from that side. Try to represent the points you actually believe in, because you are not an Obama or Democrat supporter anyway.

Um, just like the Mrs Bill Clinton supporters I can't think of a one. And the glass is nearly empty...

Why don't you list them.

No--just pointing out that he had the chance to do what he really wanted with the majorities in both houses. Just like the ACA.

No, I don't think they are a good idea. The power may be there to use them and there may be a need for them in an emergency...but Presidents tend to take more power when they can get it.

I'm not trying to represent the Democrat's point of view, only what they could have done.

He promised to raise taxes, which he did.

He promised to skyrocket your electric bill, which he is finalizing now.

237 to go.

Should you need more transparency, this was created from an Obama promise.
