Reports of reactivation should make anyone wonder how effective any possible vaccine might be.

Including this one, there are seven coronaviruses known to infect humans. Fifty-five years after the first coronavirus was identified, there is still no effective vaccine against any of them.

So this seems like as good a thread as any to talk about what has been going on for the past few weeks due to corona virus.

First few weeks I was out doing things. Spent some time on our boat fishing in Lake Mead before they closed the marina. Did dome hiking at Red Rock, before they shutdown the inner drive. Took several decent bike rides, one from near the strip, to Henderson, then on to Boulder City (Nevada) passing by Railroad Pass Casino.

In April I got sick and pretty much stayed home the better part of the month. Even on days I felt ok, I stayed home not wanting to put anyone else in Danger. Of all the symptoms, I had, one that I didn't get but could have used was loss of appetite. I weighed 150 lbs in high school and for the most part have been about 155 my entire adult life. A couple times I drifted up towards maybe touching 160, but always got back down pretty quickly and easily.

So the last month plus, I have been mostly home, watching TV, sleeping, and eating. Eating lots of junk food. I have always been an ice-cream junkie. I generally will consume 2 quart and a half containers a week. In the last month, it is one every other day, some days even a container in one day (usually 2 sittings though). Add in occasional twinkies and cookies when I get a grocery order and some capriotti's sandwiches and pizzas on days I am too lazy to cook and I hit 170 lbs on Friday for the first time in my life. Yikes! It is liable to be even higher today as I just finished the last of the ice-cream in the house.

Tomorrow, I begin to turn that around and get back to myself. I am healthy now and feeling good, so time to get out and burn some calories and eat healthier. I don't imagine the 15 lbs will come off as fast as it went on, but it will come off over time.....hopefully.

unrelated Wayne Newton did a bike trip down the strip in the last few days.

I used to be an ice cream junkie
I gave it up because DR advised me to cut down on sugar
I did have a relapse when the whole quarantine thing started. I figured if I'm gonna get the virus, might as well enjoy ice cream again.
Couple weeks, gave it back up. Thank goodness I remained healthy

Thanks for sharing your virus experience Kewlj. Really appreciate it. Glad you are getting back to your old self.

Are they showing symptoms?

There have already been mutations and different strains detected, months ago.

It is possible they have contracted one of the other strains that are out there, that they are different enough that their immunity isn't effective vs them all.

It is likely, as with the flu, that no one vaccine will be effective against all of the strains.

That is what I think the problem will be. Everyone thinks it will all be over once we get the vaccine. The common flu hasn't been eradicated with a vaccine.

Less than half the people in the US even get a flu vaccine each year. Far less for the rest of the world, so of course it hasn't been eradicated,

Now I have a question about this quote DRich. It just so happens when I click on this thread it goes to page 1 and I have seen this quote several times now. I mean really?? You don't have regrets about making this post now that we are coming up on 100k dead in the USA in the next week? It was feb 4, so I am hoping maybe you didn't realize it was actually going to happen here. It is just sort of cringe worthy reading this. :(

I would enjoy seeing a pandemic. I have never lived through one and I think it would be very interesting. I am rooting for the Corona virus, but hopefully less than 10% of the world population will die from it.

That is because the flu is different every year, even within years. Same as the common cold. Something different causes it each time. It is just that your body reacts the same way. The lemmings who say "stay home until it is safe" are going to be sorely disappointed that they have to face risk in their lives.

No, I don't have regrets about this pandemic. I think it is interesting to experience it. 125,000 people die everyday so no I don't think the deaths from this even put a blip on my radar. I have said elsewhere, maybe on WOV, when it gets to 3% of the population dying from it, I would consider that a noteworthy issue. When it gets to around 10% I would consider it a major issue.

If you're over fifty, you did live though one. The Hong Kong flu killed one to four million people between 1968 and 1970.
