So do you think that they would say polluting the water, indiscriminately killing buffalo, or destroying the ozone layer are sins against the great spirit, which will be punished?

Did you skip the part where they don't
believe in reward or punishment after
death? They have no concept of sin. The
great spirit has no will, no personality,
it's not possible to offend it. It's an adult
way of looking at things, not a continuance
of childhood which all Yahweh worship is.
Gods don't reward or punish in the Navajo
world, you strive to live in harmony with
wind and water and earth so your life will
run smoothly.

Makes 1000% more sense than anything the
death cult you belong to does.

You strive to live in harmony with the water spirit because it is pretty clear that the great spirit of water will punish you for polluting the water by making your fish die or getting you sick.

Interesting dodge of the question. I'll ask again would you hurt someone if you couldn't get caught and it was of great benefit to you?

No, because I am not a psychopath.

But on the other hand. You don't need a great benefit.

Quote:
The Milgram experiment on obedience to authority figures was a series of social psychology experiments conducted by Yale University psychologist Stanley Milgram. They measured the willingness of study participants, mostly young male students from Yale, to obey an authority figure who instructed them to perform acts conflicting with their personal conscience.

Quote:
At this point, many people indicated their desire to stop the experiment and check on the learner. Some test subjects paused at 135 volts and began to question the purpose of the experiment. Most continued after being assured that they would not be held responsible. A few subjects began to laugh nervously or exhibit other signs of extreme stress once they heard the screams of pain coming from the learner.[1]

If at any time the subject indicated his desire to halt the experiment, he was given a succession of verbal prods by the experimenter, in this order:[1]
1.Please continue.
2.The experiment requires that you continue.
3.It is absolutely essential that you continue.
4.You have no other choice, you must go on.

If the subject still wished to stop after all four successive verbal prods, the experiment was halted. Otherwise, it was halted after the subject had given the maximum 450-volt shock three times in succession.[1]

I'm curious about your own answer though -- without your belief are you saying you would hurt people for great benefit. That's the ONLY REASON YOU WOULDN'T DO IT? I hope not. I hope that's not your answer, because that would be sad.

Again, the GS has no power to do anything.
It has no center, it has no personality, it has
no will. It's not a god. Some tribes would pick
a random tree, proclaim it the center of the
universe, and worship it. Very smart. If the
universe is indeed infinite, any spot you point
to is the center. I know you just can't stand
people having no punishment for sins that
don't exist, but that's an issue you just have to deal
with.

But we don't need the threat of Hell to behave decently towards others.

You don't even need to have the same definition of decency because it really boils down to yourself. Your witty comment aside, it is abundantly clear that thank God many good people who are atheists, like yourself do not let their lack of belief in God guide their moral decisions.

I wish you could get this straight: the god of the Bible is a Hebrew myth, no more real than Athena, Gilgamesh or Captain Kirk.

You've got as much proof of this as Mike does that he is forgiven.

That would be sad and don't worry that is not the case. My faith only strengthens the God given conscience that we all have and that mercifully allows you to ignore your atheism when making moral decisions.

Thank Lucifer my lack of belief in any gods is a consequence of my moral value system.

Not my point.

The point is you're not going to impress me by anything relating to god or religion, and have me fall on my knees and embrace Christianity.

That's not how it works. Not every god
is selfish and vindictive like yours.

Organized religion appeals to a certain type
of personality. It would be insulting to go into
the details of what that means.

I don't know about god given. You can bring up your children in a life of crime, and not all of them will be as you want. Likewise you can train them all to be upstanding citizens, and you still can get a different result with some even with best efforts.

Not sure what is god given about that.
