I have known people that like them. The Steve and Karens out there LOVE them. I worked with a woman said she preferred them. People living short-term, say 5 years or less, probably prefer them. They are a necessity in Condo buildings or Townhomes.

I HATE them. I have seen too much of the dark side of them. I see no advantage to them for most people. Most people do not realize the financial liability they take on as part of one.

A great story I heard was some doctor was refused some improvement he wanted. So he slowly started buying homes in the HOA area, using straw buyers in most cases. He went to a meeting then made and passed a motion to disband the whole thing. Hope that story is true.

I am pretty sure he just lives to latch onto random details about people to say "this guys is in his 20s he doesn't know about Topic X"....
I know enough about him that he is not to be taken seriously, he just latches onto random conservative comments and says "ownage" like there is some pit fight going on.... I know the t-word is not allowed to be used, and unlike him I respect the rules (and I also am against genocide), so I will just say, he is clearly a provocateur, and not a serious actor.

But, notice how they (you know who they are) always want to know what everyone does and how old they are so that it can be used against them, but never share personal details about themselves....
Most likely it is because he is afraid that his roulette betting system will be discovered by the casinos....

Possible in some areas, but unlikely.

In my experience, the Developer holds the majority of voting seats (by owning enough parcels in the development), so that they get the final say. (and in some states they can just set it so they always have the majority holding even after all lots have been sold).
Essentially HOAs are run by developers.

Conservatives should love them because they are normally communities where the governing body is a private entity....
HOAs often do their own enforcement, security, and even parking tickets.

If you don't like the rules of the HOA why would you move there and try to destroy it from the inside? Why not move somewhere that shares your values? Seems irrational, you know what you are getting into with an HOA... And, if you are not prepared to follow the rules...
