I think he's been hard pressed to compete with the virus for news making. Ultimately something brainless and microscopic is a bigger ham than he is.

And it is far worse than those numbers will indicate. My wife has been unemployed since early March but will not be included in those numbers because New York State still has not called her (was told that would receive return call within 72 hours over 3 weeks ago) to certify her unemployment.
And there are tens of millions who are not working but not included in the numbers only because they are being paid via the PPP. So they are fake employed. In that they are generating nothing of value.

Wife's father (77) went back to work on Monday. Making around $400 less a week than when not working. He could have easily kept 'being on the dole' had he wanted to. So at least one less unemployed..... (works in a marina.... after Connecticut opened their's Cuomo decided ours are essential too....)

I thought dentists would doing emergency tooth extraction, and so forth, even if not regular work.

Thankfully not her. She is part time at two places. One is totally closed, as it more focuses on implants, crowns, etc... The other place has like 10 offices, and I think two are open for emergencies, and so maybe the entire practice is doing 10% of the work it would be doing pre-coronavirus. So there is enough work for only a few of the dentists. She has asthma, so is technically 'high risk', so she is not one of the few dentists who are still working there.

This is another of the flaws in this ridiculous unemployment system the feds have piled on to the states benefits. Let's say a dentist was making $100k a year for a 4 day work week. Unemployment will get you over $1k a week if you add up feds and state. Do you want to go in to work, sit around waiting for an emergency that will pay you $50? And do 5 or 6 of those a day?

I have to admit, the situation has created a strange world. I mean, I'm glad for the garbage man or woman, who still has a job, but it's a little strange who gets cut and who doesn't.

You can collect unemployment and work part time. (It is scaled down to how much you earned that week). Technically you are supposed to work any hours that are offered to you while on UI no matter what.

But, yeah pretty much all dental clinics are closed for anything non-emergency. My clinical hours for my Army Dental Assistant cert got messed up in Texas because this started happening right around this time.
