Evenbob are you complaining that God was speaking to the people of the time concerning their issues?.

40% of the 10 is about god himself, like
he's what's really important and not his
followers. Doesn't that sound a little needy
self serving to you? Man did indeed invent
a god in his own image.

The new Exodus movie is only getting
so-so reviews. The acting is average,
it's saved by the graphics. Rotten
Tomatoes is only giving it 64%,
not that great.

"Moses’ liberation of his people and his leading them across the desert to Canaan ranks among the archetypal epics of rebellion and triumph, but “Exodus: Gods and Kings” never successfully captures the perils or the victories. At best, you'll leave humming the plagues."

Wow it really feels like your grasping at straws. By the way the traditional Catholic version of the 10 commandments has only three dealing with God the rest about our neighbor. So you think 70% of the commandments being concerned with how we treat each other is not enough? These seven by the way cover all the other things you mentioned like school, slavery, etc. You really should read the Catechism some time it will really clear things up for you about a lot of things. There is a whole section that goes through the 10 commandments and it covers all the modern moral issues of today.

About when Jesus came it is interesting that our superstar song mentions that if you would have come later you would have reached the whole nation, because Christianity did reach all over the globe it spread like miraculous wildfire even in the midst of great persecution. It also established itself well before the 1900's, which turned out to be the bloodiest century in human history. I wonder if we would have survived that century without having the Christian ethic implicitly and explicitly ingrained in us for centuries beforehand.

There are more people in China that have survived without Christianity.

You shall have no other gods before Me.
You shall not make idols.
You shall not take the name of the LORD your God in vain.
Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy.

These all relate directly to god. You can
condense all 4 into one, but it's obvious
Moses wanted to beat his followers over
the head with 'there is only one god'. Which
was a problem in Moses time, there was lots
of pagan worship. So Moses wrote the new
rules. The first 4 seem silly now, but were
important then.

We have more idols and false gods now than Moses ever had to worry about. We also desperately need to keep a Sabbath day of rest. People nowadays are so busy, frantic, and anxious they need to relax. God knew how important that is for us, more so than ever today.

The sabbath is a Jewish word for worshiping god
and resting. Without worshiping god, there is
no sabbath. That's the point of it.

"The purpose of the Sabbath is to give us a certain day of the week on which to direct our thoughts and actions toward God. It is not a day merely to rest from work. It is a sacred day to be spent in worship and reverence."

So all 4 commandments are directly about
god, which was Moses intent.

It's interesting that atheists prefer such a fundamentalist reading of the Bible.
