In the 50's and into the 60's, the unspoken cutoff age for trick or treating was 10. If you looked 11 when you were 9, tough luck getting candy. You never ever saw 16 year olds out there like you do now, and even college kids. When I was 10 I was tall for my age and was told to get lost a bunch of times. If you take a risk, you may lose. If you never take a risk, you will always lose. |

That is a pet peeve of mine. I hate Halloween. Hate it. In my day it was 7th or 8th grade. I think I stopped at 7th or else skipped one year then my mother dragged me so I could help watch the my younger siblings. In 9th-11th kids were still going and I was like WTF? It's for KIDS! I wish it was 10 when I was a kid and today for that matter. I live in a sort of alley between 2 streets so few kids will come. I go out to eat with all the other childfrees and Halloween haters. It's great, no wait! The President is a fink. |

I've hated it for years, ever since adults started dressing up and having parties in the early 80's. Older kids go door to door because home owners tolerate it. They didn't in my day, they didn't tolerate shi*t from kids. I wonder when it changed. A total stranger would berate you in a store in front of your parents if you got out of line. Like that guy spanking a kid that wasn't his in Madmen. That stuff really happened. If you take a risk, you may lose. If you never take a risk, you will always lose. |

That's why I said "we'll get passed it". We - subject it - object passed - verb Thanks for the confirmation?
I thank you for the explanation, as it did clear up a bunch of questions I had. Seems there's no more to the issue but the fact you were using "children" colloquially whereas most the rest of us were viewing it through the specific legal definition. Getting dressed for Halloween, riding a rollercoaster, and dance are three things I hope to never do again in life. The President is a fink. |

Do you really not understand this or are you being purposely obtuse. If it's that, I really don't have time for it. I passed you the butter, I didn't past it to you. He passed out drunk, he didn't past out. We'll get past this, we won't get 'passed' it. How would you pass this exactly, what are you passing. If you take a risk, you may lose. If you never take a risk, you will always lose. |

Migraine, I said. I might be obtuse, but it's not on purpose.
Yup
Right there with you.
"It" refers to a communication malfunction which I was referencing. Written differently, it would read "We'll get passed this communications malfunction". The communication malfunction is what we are passing, and as I just changed tense from "passed" to "passing" and it still made sense, "passed" is correct, because as you yourself just offered, "past" is never a verb and therefore cannot change tense. At least as I understand it. I genuinely thought you were supporting my stance, cuz your snip sure does lol Be bold and risk defeat, or be cautious and encourage it. |

Passed this by who, what are you talking about. Who's passing anything. You pass gas, you don't pass communication malfunctions. You get past them, as putting them in the past. If you take a risk, you may lose. If you never take a risk, you will always lose. |
