Forty years ago a story like this would be nearly unthinkable; not any more.

WTF
The gunman was livestreaming as he killed people
And
The armed security guard(retired cop) shot the gunman but due to gunman body armor, security guard killed

Unfortunately, this will probably be used as justification to get congress back to talking to banning civilian purchase of armor.

https://www.congress.gov/bill/116th-congress/house-bill/4568/text
(Though ironically it specifically excepts armor purchased before bill is passed, so it will probably cause an influx of private buyers stocking up).
This has stalled out since 2019, but it would not surprise me if this re-ignites it.

Far longer. What about that campus shooter they mentioned in "Full Metal Jacket?"

Forget about ever seeing any meaningful form of gun control.

If any legislation is ever passed, the dems will never enforce it.

NYC has the toughest gun laws in the country, yet nearly every single person arrested for a gun crime is released within hours of their arrest. Even cop shooters and people awaiting multiple trials for multiple repeat gun crimes.

Whenever a DA makes an extremely rare request to have the person held, the judges always refuse to hold them.

This is from 2020, when things were slightly better:

Gotta keep up with whatever the crazies think.

Quote:
The Great Replacement (French: Grand Remplacement), also known as the replacement theory,[1][2] is a white nationalist[3] far-right conspiracy theory,[4][5][6] disseminated by French author Renaud Camus. It states that, with the complicity or cooperation of "replacist" elites,[a][4][7] the ethnic French population—as well as white European populations at large—is being demographically and culturally replaced with non-European peoples—specifically Arab, Jewish, Berber, Turkish and sub-Saharan Muslim populations—through mass migration, demographic growth and a European drop in the birth.

Well, diversity is definitely the antithesis of replacement theory.

that's the new thing, didn't you know? Mass shootings are hardly worth doing now unless you have that going

For those murderers, public hanging should be brought back as well. And that should be livestreamed.

I see that atty Ben Crump threw his hat in the ring on this one, as he has done with many other shootrings.

There's talk of suing the shooter (good luck with that) as well as the gun mfr.

I suspect however that the real target of litigation will be the governmental authorities who responded a year ago to shooting threats he made, which led to the gov't briefly taking him into custody for 1 1/2 days for purposes of a mental health evaluation.

Their legal theory will likely be that the gov't is culpable for either not reasonably detecting his violent tendencies or having been put on notice of his potential danger they did little to treat him or prevent him from acting out on his beliefs.

Both seem to be a bit of a long shot.

It is axiomatic in the law to go after a target defendant with deep pockets.

No less than 237 mass shootings in the US, so far this year.

Thirty-five so far this month.

Not to be facetious, but what is the average American supposed to do in response: lay down or take up arms?

Dems: lay down arms.

Rep: take up arms.

This country is going down the highway to hell and due to our crazy body politic nothing can be done to stop the bus from careening off the slippery highway and explosively rolling down the cliff.
