Furthermore, while a 1 for 1 change from mature old growth forests to mnan-made lumber plnatation or crop land may eb equal in area, they are not equal in biodiversity. Primary tropical forests and savannas harbour a wealth of flora and fauna which is lost when these areas are cleared. And man-made forests do not compensate for the damage and degradation done to ecosystems through land clearance.

We do know an intelligent person should wonder why the fuss over a 0.25% change. Though that leaves a lot of people in our society out.

current 440 parts per million CO2 I just saw is 0.044% or you can say the number is 0.00044 as you prefer. This is the pure data, which doesn't seem vulnerable much to faking

I suppose we are heading for 0.1% ... the exact effect on global temperature has to be a theory, but I have enough respect for the current thinking that climate change will no longer be a questionable matter

The problem in thinking of at least one person here is not the amount CO2 compared to all the atmosphere but calling the increase minimal.

The increase isn't minimal, it's a 50% increase of CO2 from what it was before. You compare CO2 to its previous level not the entire atmosphere. It's similar to taking a very strong reactive agent and doubling it.

The tiny amount of the atmosphere that is greenhouse gases is very important. Remove that very small percentage, the planet freezes.

So according to Duffy the scientist, what atmospheric level of CO2 causes enough climate change to make the Earth uninhabitable is large areas. And what's the Duffplan to keep CO2 levels below that?

It took me a long time to figure this out. Finally, today, I looked into it.

I had begun to notice there was a thing called "Realfeel" from Accuweather that we were getting hit with in local weather reports on TV. Some online weather you can use is also Accuweather. I had assumed this Realfeel was just commercializing the "heat index" that the weather bureau puts out.

NO. This is a hodgepodge of "multiple parameters" dreamed up by Accuweather and for today, a comfortable day here, the 89F degrees* that it is at the moment downtown per Accuweather is being reported as 96 degrees in Realfeel! The relative humidity they report is 48%, and using a calculator online I see that this puts the heat index at 93 degrees !

Yes I am accusing Accuweather of hyping the weather conditions. Number one, they are using some heat island spot that NOAA does not use. Number 2, they are coming up with this Realfeel crap, deciding no doubt that the NOAA heat index is not scaring people enough.

* it's 82 at my house, and using the calculator the heat index is 82 also! using the weather bureau site [weather.gov which is NOAA] and the info they have, which is dewpoint [60 degrees]. Downtown is a heat island of course and I suspect that is where Accuweather likes to read the temp
