If they do add capacity, consumers will have to foot the bill. Utilities aren't going to invest $6 to $9 billion to build a single 1,100 MW power plant unless they can be sure the returns will be worth the investment.

Then they'll have to burn more fossil fuels to generate the electricity.

Consumers are footing the bills now, with gasoline for their vehicles, heating oil for heating and NG for heating and cooking.

Oil and gas are much cheaper than green energy. Oil is the cheapest energy that is why it is so prevalent and so hard to replace. If green energy was cheaper than oil then we would have companies building green energy installations like mad, undercutting oil installations and getting rich. That isn't the case and that is why .GOV must subsidize and legislate green energy because is costs more.

We're talking two differnt things, amigo. Electrification and green energy.

How so. Why do you think we are short of electricity. Oil and coal fired plants are being decommissioned.

"Most coal-fired power plants operating in the United States were built in the 1970s and 1980s. These aging coal-fired power plants have been rapidly retired because they cannot compete with the growing number of highly efficient, modern natural gas-fired power plants and low-cost renewables such as wind and solar."

Coal competes very well on cost they are being closed because of environmental reasons. Do your research on natural gas. They are also being phased out. None of this is because of cost considerations.

"To meet California's climate goals, use of fossil fuels like natural gas will need to decrease by 80 percent or more by 2050. Zero-carbon electricity requirements under Senate Bill 100 (de León, Chapter 312, Statutes of 2018) will lead to a substantial reduction in annual demands for natural gas in electric generation."

They have extended the operating permits for gas plants that were scheduled to shut down but only for a year or two at a time. Biden has indicated that he will follow California's lead on gas reduction.

I was referring to the $6 to $9 billion cost of building a new power plant. The utility companies will pass the expense to the consumers.

After our clueless Governor, got the nuclear power plant Indian Point to close over environmental concerns, carbon emissions from in-state generation rose 35% in the first month.

Then the state tried to build an offshore wind project, but the company that was building it abandoned the project over costs.
