The answer is so simple that anyone should be able to come up with it, even in there sleep. Quit adding load to the power grid faster than you can add capacity. To make it worse we are cutting many of the carbon sourced generation facilities on mistaken beliefs. If you believe that carbon is destroying the world that is your prerogative but at least open yours eyes to fact that we aren't making energy fast enough for the worlds needs. The worlds energy usage is going up not falling. "but if you make yourselves sheep, the wolves will eat you." Benjamin Franklin |

You may have passed college with high honors, but you probably should have stayed awake when they taught proper English grammar and composition... |

Fast charging a single EV draws between 135 and 350KWH and is the equivalent of adding 106 to 280 homes to the grid while the battery is being charged. Currently 3.3 million EVs in the US. If only 5% of them were being fast charged at the same time, it would require as much energy as between 17,490,000 to 46,200,000 homes. Impossible to keep up. Utilities need a lot more generators and cables. Copper is currently outperforming gold by 23% YTD. Forget gold coins. Save your pennies. |

So do we stop adding load or do add capacity faster? One stifles progress. One enhances it. |

Load has to follow increasing capacity. .Gov is putting artificial dates on the increasing load. By mandating electric vehicles, banning gas appliances and heating as well as numerous other 'green' mandates. Adding capacity takes time. A major power project typically takes 10 years from conception to completion. An individual commercial level solar or wind project can be built in a somewhat shorter period of time, but not hundreds of them simultaneously. If they do add capacity, consumers will have to foot the bill. Utilities aren't going to invest $6 to $9 billion to build a single 1,100 MW power plant unless they can be sure the returns will be worth the investment. Then they'll have to burn more fossil fuels to generate the electricity. |
