It's like I've been saying for years, the smarter
people get, the less they need to invent a
god for things to make sense to them.

'The authors speculate that education could stimulate secularisation by showing people competing worldviews, thereby undermining the claim that most religions have to be exclusive holders of fundamental truths.'

The image of Mary's face, hands, and the robe are indeed miraculous in nature and unexplainable by science. Also its preservation and longevity are unexplained. While you are at it you should check out the miracle of Lanciano or that of Saint Janarius of Naples.

Science can explain little about religion. My
dog seems like a miracle to me and I deem
it so.

That's all it takes make something a miracle,
just claim it is. Who can argue with you. Or
do like the Church does, they all agree and
it's a miracle. Because miracles are as real
as our friends the unicorns, who can oppose
them with evidence. Nobody.

One of the more truer statements you have made.

Plenty of people can argue with you and they should. Miracles are not to be taken lightly. They need evidence and study and should lead people to a deeper belief in God. For the Church to accept a miracle it takes a good amount of time, study, examination, and reflection.

None of it the least bit scientific, of course.
It's like the Catholic voodoo ladies deciding
on what goes into casting a spell. Lots of
study, none of it scientific. I love voodoo,
it's the Catholic religion taken to it's natural
conclusion.

Interesting news:

http://time.com/3956781/women-abortion-regret-reproductive-health/

I'm guessing most women who are opposed to abortion don't actually get abortions.

I'd be interested in a study of women who decided not to have an abortion, and how many of them regret that decision a few years later. But that would be harder to do.

This thread is 152 pages long. It's an interesting
topic. People invent a god, then build a religion
around him. (it's always a 'him', female god's are
frowned upon now). Then they get really upset
when everybody doesn't believe in the god they
invented, and all the rules they came up with
to worship him.

Like sin. The god they invent has a very fragile
ego, he's easily offended. He can even be
offended by your thoughts, let alone your actions.
This would be very humorous, if so many people
over the ages had not been harmed by this silly
game. And continue to be harmed.

Your best choice is not to play the game at all.
There are no winners..

Holy Sheet!

http://theness.com/neurologicablog/index.php/shroud-of-turin-reproduced/

If I had a nickel for every Catholic who's tried to prove their deity by means of this forgery, I'd be able to buy a second-class European principality. It's too bad I don't. I could really do something interesting with a few blocks in the midst of Rome ;)

'The science of the shroud is a classic example of the difference between objective science and ideological pseudoscience.'

There's real science, and Church science. The
Church has always had trouble telling one
from the other..

Nareed posted this in another thread.

"If you don't sin, then Jesus died for nothing."

If you don't believe in sin, he died for nothing.
If he indeed died for peoples 'sins', he died for
an idea, a fantasy, not a fact. You can spend your
whole life looking for sin, and you won't find
any. There is no god that gives a rip what you
think or do, let alone disobeying his rules. Looking
for sin is what we used to call a snipe hunt. Looking
for something that doesn't exist.
If you take a risk, you may lose. If you never take a risk, you will always lose.
