I assume there’s an underground economy to some extent, so they may last longer than expected.

I didn’t realize HOW bad the Iranian economy was! The USA, over the past 12 months, has experienced 3.5% inflation. Iran has experienced 89% inflation! With food topping 100%! If you are a generally well to do Iranian you saw half of your net worth go pffft.

You are thinking as someone who holds some wealth as assets. But feel for the 30% + of the population who have neither savings, assets, nor income but do have mouths to feed. Food inflation hits the poorest hardest.

I was thinking about both. Wife’s best friend has well to do parents still living in Tehran. They are coming here (Canada actually) to visit soon. Friend of course wants them to stay, but they have their friends, their routines, their home, their money, all in Tehran. (Friends brother lives in Toronto).

It has been mentioned here ad nauseum how we will have a ‘regime change’ here due to the ‘disastrous inflation’ of 3.5%. How high does it have to be in Iran before the ‘poor buggers’ have had enough and revolt?

So far our government isn’t shooting 50,000 of us in a couple weeks for staging protests about the economy like they do in Iran.

What is this "regime change" here of which you speak? I have heard nothing of a violent or peaceful overthrow of the lawful government of the United States, except from your GOP/MAGA friends on Jan 6, 2021. Please do enlighten us.

As for the 'poor buggers' in Iran having enough and revolting, friendly reminder that the common people have no political or military power in Iran. The clerical class control the levers of state and government, and they are 10,000 strong. Are Bibby and Donny going to kill them all? The military is fiercely loyal to the hardline clerics, as we have seen. Until that changes, Iran is going to stand pat.

As for your wife's Iranian friends, are you going to tell them in person you hate them for their religion, just like you keep saying you hate Muslims here and other places?
