The video below is more complete. First he begged to get off lightly but the officer explains driving without a license, in his case, was a felony, end of discussion . You can hear dude say he wanted to shoot himself... you don't need to talk to get that done. Perhaps the gun was not in his hand yet.

Some may think the cop didn't have to shoot. I'm surprised how many people don't know that they are trained to blow you away as soon as you fail to follow the order to drop the weapon, or in this case, I think, to quit grabbing for it. The reason has to be that it has been shown that any hesitation in this matter is what gets LEOs killed. I think, actually, having to first tell them to drop it, not opening fire immediately, makes their job 100% more dangerous

You have to make a decision in about 1 second. I'd have to side with the cop. He doesn't know what's going to happen next but he hears the guy saying he's getting a gun to shoot himself.

Also 70 in 55 when you already should know you're at risk? Eh. not good/

He can't risk that the guy won't decide to shoot him instead, hell, the dude himself doesn't know what he is going to do

I watch some of the self defense stuff, I notice that when it's Brazil or similar the undercover cop just opens fire if it's clearly a gun drawn in a shop, say, none of that yelling "drop the weapon" stuff

That’s hard to say. Lots of people aren’t as serious so may drop it. Hard core cop killers don’t listen anyway.
I guess I'm for making them yell to drop the weapon, or yell to not grab it, but compliance must be fast, and I wouldn't be inclined to tell the cop he fired too quick in just about any case, especially the second case
