I do not disagree with the message: it is what kids should be taught.

But...they should not be taught that in public school via a Judeo / Christian religious poster of the Ten Commandments.

"Separation of Church and State" is the fundamental bedrock of our Republic.

Separation of church and state means no state religion. It does not mean that anything religious is forbidden.

Actually...it does, at least it means inter alia that the state cannot favor or elevate or promote the tenets of one religion over the other as is now the case in Louisiana with this poster nonsense.

In this case the legislature is mandating its posting in public schools which is clearly state action.

The Founders had a valid concern about keeping the government out of religious issues.

I for one take umbrage.

SCOTUS has ruled prayer before a public meeting is allowed as long as it is brief and is not exclusive. Judges have put 10 commandments up in their courtrooms. The 10 commandments cover the religion of well over half the population at large and probably more in LA. I would not have voted for it but would not oppose it. I oppose it less given the one sided indoctrination schools in many places give on far more controversial topics.

Theophobic people can deal with it same way we are told these other things are no big deal.

Did Duffman just say in effect he’s willing to tolerate the acceptance of gays and transgender lifestyles openly and endorsed in our public schools as just regular people? This is a surprise.

Ah, but the mandatory posting of the Ten Commandments poster IS exclusive....FAIL.

As an atheist I've sort of "won" by default til now as we non-believers have sought to post NOTHING.

Really, the Louisiana law is kind of scary for we who fimly espouse separation of chuch and state:

"Today the Ten Commandments is required reading; tomorrow it's the frickin' Bible."

SCOTUS has ruled prayer before a public meeting is allowed. But they have also ruled that posting the 10 Commandments in public schools is prohibited.

So what if the commandments cover the religion of the majority? Since when in the US is the religion of the majority the religion of the state?

Not really. I am saying if that group tells us to shut up and deal with it then theophobes can do the same.

Not sure what he considers a "theophobe" as I don't remember him saying one favorable comment about Islam. Pretty sure he must be a theophobe.

Tolerate them all, in all forms, or be a theophobe. The one you don't agree with might be the true religion for all you know.

I'm fine with non-compulsory non-violent forms of Buddhism, and probably Unitarians. Not that I believe a wit of either.
