So I looked up the text of the law. Can be found here: https://legiscan.com/LA/text/HB71/id/2978627

This is what the poster is required to say, formatting of the text omitted.

Quote:
The text shall read as follows: "The Ten Commandments I AM the LORD thy God. Thou shalt have no other gods before me. Thou shalt not make to thyself any graven images. Thou shalt not take the Name of the Lord thy God in vain. Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy. 3 Honor thy father and thy mother, that thy days may be long upon the land which the Lord thy God giveth thee. Thou shalt not kill. Thou shalt not commit adultery. Thou shalt not steal. Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbor. Thou shalt not covet thy neighbor's house. Thou shalt not covet thy neighbor's wife, nor his manservant, nor his maidservant, nor his cattle, nor anything that is thy neighbor's."

The first 7 lines of these commandments are plainly and clearly and exclusively religious. There are only 14 lines. So half of what Lousiana wants us to post is worshiping the Judeo-Christian God. WTF?

That's not the point, and you know it.

The point is that the Louisiana legislature is force-feeding Christianity to students.

The Ten Commandments are not secular, they are Christian.

What ever happened to separation of church and state, eh?

Look, I get it that Louisiana is a land of mouth-breathing quasi-religious zealots but not ALL Louisiana residents drink that Kool-Aid, nor should their kids be foreced to do so.

This will wind up in front of the USSC: given the current make up of the court it will be an interesting acid test.

Either we uphold the Founding Father's principles of separation of church and state or, for political purposes, we descend into madness and watch this Once Great Nation further go down the drain.

The Ten Commandments are Jewish first. They predate Christianity by many centuries.

Back to the point….. Requiring them seems like a clear constitutional violation. Teaching ABOUT them seems like valid education. Watching the movie seems like the best idea…

Whatever...not many Jews in Louisiana; the Commandments were co-opted by early Christians as part of their dogma.

As said above, they are actually Jewish. But they are also the basis of our system of law and values for western society. Your bigoted statements do not change that.

This once great nation is already circling the drain, but the Ten Commandments have not a thing to do with that.

The House recently passed legislation which allows the U.S. government to automatically register men ages 18 to 25 into the Selective Service, or draft system.

The Senate now has the bill, but the Senate Armed Forces Committee wants draft eligibility to be extended to women. Which makes sense.

Senate Democrats Jon Tester (D-MT) and Jacky Rosen (D-NV) have added language to the annual defense authorization bill to require women to register for the draft.

Senate Armed Services Committee, Jack Reed (D-RI), defended the proposed policy change - arguing that women can hold many warfighting positions without serving on the front lines.

"It’s not like World War II where we need a lot of infantry. We need cyber experts, we need intelligence analysts, linguists, etc. Wait a second, there are a lot of women out there that can do this better than men," Reed continued.

Republican Senators are opposed. Calling it 'insane' and vowing to strip the language from the bill.

Since women have already been serving for years, the draft applying to everyone doesn't seem controversial. It's just the same old argument of what they will do in the service that is going on.

(we have retired women generals now, which means decades of service)

Anyway, I take the fire brigade argument for women. If it is really true that a person may have to carry at least a 100lbs on average, then that is the requirement.
Although there's a good reason to look at different jobs and see if the requirements are accurate though. You shouldn't exclude people if the requirement isn't needed at that level.

Some people think we should have no one if we can't have a fully competent person. If you can't get a doctor in a rural area, would you prefer to have no one, or a maybe a PA physician's Assistant. I'd prefer someone over no one, even if we didn't get the highest qualification. If desperate enough, I'd let a student pilot try to fly me out of a remote area if it came to possibly dying waiting for outside rescue.

Which part of US law is based on not having graven images of God? Or that there is only one God?
