Anybody could claim I wrote any of that stuff myself. Talk in cheap. I've learned a long time ago strangers never believe me. I somehow have a face people naturally distrust. Knowledge is Good -- Emil Faber |

C'mon, you have names and dates. You have the guy and the collection it came from. You have the auction price and sale. If somebody doubts all that they're nuts. YOU are convinced it's real, looking at the the exact same evidence the nest buyer will see. If you take a risk, you may lose. If you never take a risk, you will always lose. |

No doubts now. It's the real deal. If you take a risk, you may lose. If you never take a risk, you will always lose. |

I don't see it as a face people distrust. Reading the thread here I see you as more wanting to build your collection and not buying for resale. Think more how the Pawn Stars build a story. The President is a fink. |

They're hugely significant. The car itself, that the plates were on, is in THE museum. How many people can collect something that belonged to one of the 5 most famous and popular Presidents in history, and it's obvious it was theirs? While googling this, I came across a recent poll. FDR was their choice if any 5th President is added to Mount Rushmore, and it's not close. There might be half-dozen more iconic artifacts of FDR out there; the pince-nez, the cigarette holder, the homberg. But I bet they're not out there. They're likely in the Smithsonian. Lots of pictures of Roosevelt in that blue car, too. He preferred to give his press conferences in it. It seems very possible, though, that it was one plate back then, too. An alternate to different front and backs could be one was for the Phaeton, the other for the Willys. Still need that state registration info to go with it no matter what's true. Never doubt a small group of concerned citizens can change the world; it's the only thing ever has |

Wizard Administrator Member since: Oct 23, 2012 Threads: 239 Posts: 6095 | Thanks for your encouragement Barb. As a progress report, the price is up slightly to $2026 with 6 days and 23 hours to go. The only question is how high should I go? Knowledge is Good -- Emil Faber |

What have other historical and celebrity plates sold for. I still say 4500-6000 If you take a risk, you may lose. If you never take a risk, you will always lose. |

Most valuable license plates I would say are "historical." I don't think any license plate has broken the $10,000 barrier but many have broken $5,000. I think the high bid will be in your range there. The reserve may be higher. Knowledge is Good -- Emil Faber |

Aspects of this bother me. Why is he selling, why is he breaking up the pair. He might just be testing the market by putting a huge reserve on it to see what it's worth. Collectors do that all the time on Ebay and in regular auctions. They have no intention of selling. If you take a risk, you may lose. If you never take a risk, you will always lose. |
