I was at a cocktail party once talking to a girl from Lebanon. When Israel came up she kept calling it "your 52nd state!" I give her more of a pass than the kids in AZ who asked me if Puerto Rico was the 51st or 52nd state, but boy did she hate Israel.

They hate Israel for the same reason Jews are disliked in other places. By and large they are very very smart so they end up being the bankers and the landlords and the business owners. Well to be fair a lot of people (from other countries) think of Guam and Puerto Rico as two States -sometimes some other places, but those are the two most people around have heard of- (they do not really understand the whole territory system, and many Americans do not either, and its kind of a stupid system, but that is for another topic...).

But, Lebanon is a country that does not get along well with Israel. People think anti-sematic conspiracies are bad in America (they are), but its nothing compared to the middle east (where often its the government pushing them...). For example you cannot even use the term "Israeli Bandage" in the middle-east or else many Arab soldiers will refuse it (you have to say "pressure dressing").

That is fine for someone from Lebanon. I will be honest I do not know how many provinces Canada has. The USA should draw some more attention for people to know from movies and TV alone so I gave her a pass there mostly. I say "mostly" because she brought it up, if I were to say how Washington state is just another Canadian province I will be sure to know how many there are before I blurt a number. The kids at Burger King though they are just stupid.

That was a minor plotline on "Sex and the City" not that I watched but I saw it somehow probably waiting for "Oz" or "The Sopranos" to come on. The brunette, the only datable one of them, was going to convert for her Jewish BF. Knocks on the door and asks the Rabbi to convert. He says "no thank you" and closes the door. Come to think of it Jews are kind of quiet sometimes secretive about religion. Worked a Bar Mitzvah and we had to wait until sundown to start. Woman running it was very nice and nice about it, but near evasive. She offered us food. It was Saturday. She says can we start a little late (this was near summer solstice) as some of the "older members had a thing" about it. She was almost evasive about the whole thing. I had no issue, food was good, no big deal. But I was thinking what on earth is the big secret? Did she think a Gentile dealer does not know about the Sabbath?

To get indoctrinated from some Marxist professor about Israeli practicing "genocide" just kind of shows you were a blank slate to begin with. It helps you stay radicalized, of course, if you bring it up with the vice president of the US and get it validated.

It often is the case that someone who got to college age without being exposed to the way the rest of the world views the foreign policy of your country ... well, it can be a shock that has great impact. The foreign policy of any country is always selfish, very selfish. The US is no different, sorry if that's a shock, students. You might expect Israel's to be even more self centered, dealing with existential threat on a constant basis.

Yes, it does mean the policies of the US and Israel can't perfectly coincide. That doesn't mean you have to buy into every radical thing you hear. Even if the US VP agrees.

There have never been Jewish missionaries. The last thing they want in their religion is outsiders. So it's not their religion they are hated for, it's because they own everything and are the bosses. Go back to the turn of the century in 1900. In the silent movies serials who was the evil bad guy. It was always the banker or the landlord. They never came out and said they were Jewish but it was always implied. And Jews always owned all the pawn shops and jewelry shops. Who did you go begging to when you were desperate for money? A Jewish pawn shop owner. Jews are hated for their success, not for their religion. I've never had anything but respect for Jews. Go and look at the Nobel Prize winners since it started, how many of them are Jewish. This world would be a sad place if the Jews were not figuring things out for us.
