Sorry about your personal situation. You know doctors have the same bullshit rule that you can't 'fire' a patient for non-payment without YOU insuring the patient finds another doctor! Imagine the conversation..... Dr. Smith, I am 'firing' Mr. Jones for non-payment, when can you get him an appointment?

It sounds like New York State is going to be very 'liberal' (pun intended) with unemployment benefits, so I expect you will get at least something. Do you know what happens if your client decides to pay you and you do more work for him? Do you have to return the unemployment money?

I have tried calling NYS Dept. of Labor unemployment claims no less than 100 times

I have made it through to the automated system 5 times

I was then placed on hold for about one minute each time until another recording played telling me they were too busy to handle my call and to try again later

I am beginning to believe they merely took the phones off the hook and play the same "we are too busy" messages to everyone

As for your question - there is no work that can be done right now as the family courts are not accepting new filings other than emergency orders of protection - the case is set for trial and those trial dates are all delayed by months now - so, there is no work to be done

No income, client isn't paying you,
no stimulus money. Shutdown
lasting till May. You're screwed.
Time to see if your old bedroom
is available at your parents. I'm
not joking in the slightest. That's
what parents are for in times like
these.
If you take a risk, you may lose. If you never take a risk, you will always lose.

I do not see how moving in with my parents will help me.
I own my place and still have bills to pay
My parents cannot magically assume payment for my bills

Do you live in NYC or some other part of NY? Not a cheap place to live either way, just curious what kind of monthly living expenses you’re dealing with.

If the gov is going to be sending out subsistence checks, it would be appropriate if there was a mechanism to garnishee at least a portion of the money from deadbeat dads [or moms] who are miles behind in child support, and pass it along for the childs benefit.

Great post!! I wish all casinos would confiscate jackpots of people behind on child support. I can't wait to see if Nevada will ever do it.

I have had to call my share of government places during all of this. My best advice if you have not been doing it is call the minute they open in the morning.

Or, he could get a part time job hopefully making enough to pay for food. Housing payments are being deferred almost everywhere. Plenty of low paying jobs still hiring in Las Vegas. I have two friends that just went to work at a supermarket making $11 and hour. Much less than the $55 an hour they were getting paid by their local union.

Aren't there suspensions on evictions right now at least for 2 months?
