That's because you misuse the word 'universe'.
You think the galaxies are the universe and it's
not. That's like taking a gallon of water from
the ocean and calling it 'the ocean', like the
gallon is exactly the same as the ocean itself.
The gallon is part of the ocean, not the ocean
it came from.

Like they say, the universe is not only bigger
than we imagine, it's bigger than we can
imagine. It's infinite, which our minds cannot
grasp. So we little peons invent quaint stories
of creator gods to deal with what we cannot
possibly begin to grasp or understand.

That's why the mystics of the East seem so
attractive. They say don't even try and understand
it, just accept that you're an eternal part of
everything. Quit inventing silly Parker Bros
board games about gods and saviors and
heavens and hells and sins and devils and all
that other stuff that we use to entertain
ourselves about how important we are.
Because face it, religion is first and foremost
about drama and entertainment and how we
are the apple of some gods eye and the center
of his universe. Our little egos are attracted
to that like flies to honey..

The universe cannot be infinite if it is expanding into something

Good point ace. It is also material.

The universe in NOT expanding, The
results of the BB are expanding into
the infinite universe. The BB and the
universe are not the same thing. The
BB exploded in the universe, the BB
is not the universe. It's the part
of the universe that's visible to us.

You are not as far from God as you seem.

I feel as close to god as I do to Santa,
Peter Pan, and Frodo. They are all
equally fictitious in the kingdom
of common sense.

Bob - the universe (everything everywhere) is expanding - it just becomes more universe

It is true that as the universe expands, anything it expands into becomes the universe - I know and understand the definition of universe as you mean it — hiwever, I believe I should have qualified my use of universe as the “known” or “observable” universe - what am I asking is what the “known” or “observable” universe is expanding into? Some theorize that there is a multiverse while some theorize the expansion is into absolutely “nothing” — the absence of anything at all (time, space, energy, matter, anti-matter) - this is a more fine-tuned version of the question I posed

No. What we can see, the remnants of the BB,
is expanding into the universe it exists
in. The actual universe has no place to
expand to, it's already infinite.

Lets put it another way. The universe
was here, it's always been here. The
big bang happened inside the universe.
The BB isn't the universe, it's part of it.
It exists inside the universe.

Sure Bob, whatever you say Bob (as I back away ever so slowly).

Thanks - figured it might assist with the nomenclature here
