The Holy Trinity

What does this mean, exactly. "God is one, the Father is God, the Son is God, the Holy Spirit is God, the Father is not the Son, the Son is not the Holy Spirit, and the Holy Spirit is not the Father." Because this is an impossible riddle, it's obviously meant to have no real meaning. It's like a Zen koan, a question the master asks a student who then has to come up with the right response. But there is no right response, so what the heck. The Trinity has to be like that. It's meant to be confusing to sound mysterious. It must be profound because it can't be figured out, like the koan "what is the sound of one hand clapping". The Trinity is a religious trick. If you take a risk, you may lose. If you never take a risk, you will always lose. |

There are at least 100 bible verses to support that. Meanwhile, the word "trinity" or any form of it is nowhere to be found in the bible. Knowledge is Good -- Emil Faber |

With very little effort, you can shift the flavors and give your meal an ethnic twist if you focus on the holy trinity. Not THE Holy Trinity ~ the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit ~ but the holy trinity of seasoning. The original phrase was used to apply to the base of Cajun cooking, but it has come to remind chefs of the basic beginnings of recipes from many other regions. Cajun ~ Onion, Celery, Bell Pepper Southwestern ~ Cumin, Garlic, Cilantro Chinese ~ Scallions, Ginger, Garlic Mexican ~ Corn, Beans, Chilis Greek ~ Lemon Juice, Garlic, Oregano Italian ~ Garlic, Basil, Tomato |

But if the Father is not the Son, the Son is not the Holy Spirit, and the Holy Spirit is not the Father, how can they be the same thing. They cannot be used interchangably. "Ultimately, the Trinity it is incomprehensible to the human mind." So the mind thinks up a question it can't answer. It's a zen koan, like I said. It's not a real thing, it's a puzzle with no answer. It's kind of a trick, to make you think there's a 'there' there, when there really isn't one. If you take a risk, you may lose. If you never take a risk, you will always lose. |

I never said those assumptions are true. I, of course, don't subscribe to any religion but my interpretation of the bible matches most closely to Oneness Pentecostalism. Knowledge is Good -- Emil Faber |

Never heard of that one, fascinating. 'Oneness Pentecostals generally argue that the Godhead is in Jesus, yet Jesus is not in the Godhead' Another riddle. If there's a heaven, it has to be a 2 mile long boardroom table with a seat for all the 2500 offshoots of Christianity, so they can argue for eternity about its real meaning. If you take a risk, you may lose. If you never take a risk, you will always lose. |

I can't speak for them but I saw where the Wiki page said that. I think they would explain it as the "Godhead" is like a force or energy, which they refer to as the Holy Spirit, which they put a lot of emphasis on. Kind of like in Star Wars. It was in Jesus, the man. However, a physical thing, like Jesus' body, can't be in spirit. Star Wars is the best comparison I can think of. You might say that when Obi-Wan Kenobi died his ghost kept appearing. I would argue, to keep the comparison going, it was just an illusion for the benefit of the living. The Godhead sometimes had to use illusions, like a burning bush, when he needed to deliver a message. Knowledge is Good -- Emil Faber |

You are missing the idea of consubstanial. This means that Father, Son, and Spirit are the same substance, or divinity. They are still different persons and distinct. The Trinity is three distinct persons that share the same nature of divinity. “It is with the smallest brushes that the artist paints the most exquisitely beautiful pictures.” ( |

But god is not human, he's not a person. In the myth god is the thing from which all things come from. So you have to be saying there is god, father, son and HS, all separate. That's even stranger than the Trinity. If you take a risk, you may lose. If you never take a risk, you will always lose. |
