And now we move onto the real stuff!

Bolt - what an athlete! Nothing like him. Simply incredible.
As was Van Niekerk in the 400m. Didn't think I'd see the day come so soon where Michael Johnsons world record would get beaten. So close to breaking 43s too!

Bolt was amazing, not a great start, behind at 50 meters and he puts on the after burners. Incredible
Van Niekerk broke the record from the outside lane which means nobody in front of him to be able to better judge his speed. Another amazing performance.

Wow, I was watching the qualifiers for one of the men's hurdles and a guy from France false-started. That was IT! One mistake and his Olympics was over. 4 years of training shot. Brutal.

Its a good rule
In the old days too many false starts
Too many runners were anticipating
The guy also false started in a qualifier which is dumb. You run safe in a qualifier taking no chances

Womens 400 last nite, incredible finish with the girl from the Bahamas diving for the finish just edging out Allyson Felix

Now for the weird
The Ryan Lochte robbery story
Swimmers party and drink at the France house and take a taxi back to the athletes village
The 1st story
The taxi was stopped, men with badges told everybody to get out and lie on the ground. Lochte says he refused and a gun was pointed right at his forehead and cocked. They were robbed of wallets and money. Credentials and cell phone left with swimmers
Swimmers get back and tell some friends and family
Police read about it on twitter and contact the swimmers
The swimmers make a police report.
People start questioning the story. Cell phones left behind? One of the most stolen items in Rio
A judge reviews police report and looks at tapes of athletes arriving back at the village looking pretty jovial.
Judge wants to question the athletes further
Judge orders passports seized
Lochte already in the USA, 2 other swimmers removed from their flight, another swimmer checked in but never showed up for flight
2nd story, Lochte tells Matt Lauer via phone they were not stopped by robbers but were already stopped at a gas station
Gun was not pointed at his forehead, pointed at him.
Kind of weird
still developing

Sounded like Lochte embellished the story a little. Big mistake when you're doing a police report.

I always thought because 10 meter divers became experts on diving , they wouldn't feel like they slammed the water. Apparently not true. They often have to resort to ice bags afterwards because it's a bruising sport.

Medal count has to be related to money invested in the sport for training. There is no other rational way to explain why countries do so much better if they host the Olympics. There has to be some extra enthusiasm for the home field advantage, but it has to explained by a larger investment in training and facilities.

Brazil participated in 21 Summer Olympics and has 23 Gold in all that time. While not shattering previous records, it does look like it will be there best.
2016 3 gold, 5 silver and 4 bronze So far
2012 3 gold, 5 silver and 9 bronze
2008 3 gold, 4 silver and 9 bronze
2004 5 gold, 2 silver and 3 bronze
2000 0 gold, 6 silver and 6 bronze

UK is running neck and neck with China in Brazil, but they had third place in 2012, beating out Russia in number of Gold medals. But back in 2004 they were ranked #10 neck and neck with Cuba.

China had a whopping 51 gold medals for the Beijing games in 2008, soundly beating USA with 36. Even with USA dominating this Olympics, there is no chance of getting 50 gold medals.

Sounds to me like it never happened. They got caught in a lie.

I bet the true story involves drugs or hookers....

Another factor to consider
The home field advantage in the NFL is about 3 points.
That's a big advantage and the visiting team is not visiting from another country
The further away you are travelling to the Olympics, the more you must adjust your body to Rio time
Sun Yang of China, one of the best 1500 swimmers in the world, did not make the final
His excuse was that his body had still not adjusted to Rio time.
