You do not have a right to make a group change their beliefs just because you want to be a part of it.

Who said anything about making them
change their beliefs? I'm just pointing
out it's bigotry no matter which way
you look at it. If they want to be bigots,
that's their business. Just don't try and
pretend it's something other than what
it is.

The Church practices bigotry. They like to
call it other things, but it's bigotry nonetheless.
If they want to say, heck yes we're bigots,
that's fine. But they don't.
If you take a risk, you may lose. If you never take a risk, you will always lose.

And what do you call someone who rants against the church because they disagree with their beliefs?
The President is a fink.

Not with their beliefs, with their practices,
past and present.

You can't make this stuff up. A US
congressman stole the water glass the pope
drank from, so him and his wife
could sip the magical potion and sprinkle
it on their grandkids.

This is superstitious insanity run amok in
2015. These people are certifiable nut
jobs and they hold elective office. Good
grief.

Isn't this kind of a bigoted statement?

Thanks Duffman. The Pope keeps going but I need a little break, I don't know where this 78 year old gets his energy.

Anyway I know Bob likes definitions so I thought this definition of Bigotry by Wikipedia was a good one: refers to a state of mind where a person is obstinately, irrationally, or unfairly intolerant of ideas, opinions, or beliefs that differ from their own, and intolerant of the people who hold them.

I suggest that Bob's attacks on Catholicism fit this definition.

By the way I think it is obvious the Pope understands, and so do I, that some of the teachings of the Church are hard to understand or strike a very personal and sometimes painful chord with people. However, I think the Pope is showing very clearly that all our teachings are based on love and respect for every human person. A male only priesthood is not based on inequality. Marriage between a man and a woman is not based on hatred. Supporting natural family planning is not meant to be a burden but a blessing for couples. You might disagree with these teachings, but it is bigotry I think to assume the worst and say that the Catholic Church is motivated by anything other than a deep concern and love for humanity.

I'm a bigot, so probably. I have no problem
saying that. Just don't blow smoke up my
beehind if you're something like the Church
and have all these rules that obviously make
you a bigot, and try and claim you're not.

big·ot
ˈbiɡət/
noun
noun: bigot; plural noun: bigots

a person who is intolerant toward those holding different opinions.
One who is intolerantly devoted to his or her opinions and prejudices

The definition of bigot doesn't perfectly describe
the Church's position on Gay sex and Gay marriage?
Of course it does.

He's only 78? He looks 85 and about to fall
over half the time.

A perfect description of the Church's position
on Gay sex and Gay marriage. Thank you.

But the awful history of the Church is
not. Why is it fine to condemn all the
members of the current Nazi Party because
of their awful past, yet we aren't supposed
to condemn the Catholic Church for theirs.
Kind of a double standard, don't you think?

Tolerance is the virtue of believing in nothing. By your standard anyone with any personal belief is a bigot.

Not at all. But when you advertise your bigotry,
like the Church does, when you put your
intolerance on display for all to see, like your
proud of it, then it's hard to ignore. It's impossible
to respect any bigoted organization when they
try and cover their bigotry, their hurting of others,
by saying it's really love and compassion they're
showing. This makes them both bigots and hypocrites.
