Stripes is on Nflix. I remember liking
it in the early 80's. I find it almost
unwatchable now.

Bill Murray quits his job for no
reason and gets his car repo'd
because he's a deadbeat. So
they join the army, even though
they're way too old, they would
never get in.

Everybody gets a boot camp buzz
cut except the two stars. Murray
joined on purpose, he wasn't
drafted, but from the minute he
gets there he makes fun of everything
and hates being told what to do.
He's a complete unlikable jerk
for the whole movie. When the
sarge hits him in the face, I was
cheering. Their ragtag company
of idiots would never exist in any
real army in the world.

Why I ever liked this is a mystery.

They were portrayed as in their late 20s so were well within the age to get in. Actually Murry's situation is within reason. We all have known people who had a life going nowhere, so they join. As the recruiter said, "sometimes the Army is your only shot." (Which IRL irks the left to no end.)

Believe it or not, the Army gave them full cooperation. I guess they wanted to put a more friendly face on things which had gotten really bad by 1980, not a good time to join.

I really enjoyed that movie, and I'm really glad some group isn't pounding the racist drum about it.

Funny how Walt and the barber gave each other crap and Walt told the kid, "now you man up and try it". That is how a lot of people in the trades were. No racism intended, just be a man and have a good life you earn.

America has pc'd itself to death.

I have read a sporadic complaint here and there but nothing major. True about the trades. If you go onto a crew and cry about racism you will not last. You do have to man-up as on a crew like that the guys act like they hate each other when work is really going. They don't, but it is letting off steam. And expect to hear names like Frankie the Wop and Black Steve. Part of the territory. Walt turns the kid from a snowflake to a man.

And the kid turns Walt from a monolith to a human. I thought it was a very good movie.

Walt was just a typical man of the era. There is an episode of AITF with Mike and Archie locked in the storeroom that shows the same kind of guy.

The Mustang was supposed to be called the Torino but Henry II got himself in some kind of scandal over there.

I didn’t really care for the car, not like the Shelby Mustang GT in Gone in 60 seconds or the SS Camaro in Better off Dead. However, wasn’t this the same model of car that Starsky drove on the “Starsky and Hutch” TV show?

Me either. There was just too many
of them, you couldn't go anywhere
without seeing one, from 1964 on.
