Just watched a Documentary on Netflix
Alpha Go
A team of computer programmers and their software takes on the best Go player on the planet
Very well done

They 1st take on the best European player and beat him. Go players are skeptical since they don't think the European champion is very good. The team then heads to S Korea to take on the best Go player on the planet. The computer wins 4 games to 1.

They are serious about the game in S. Korea. When I was there for a business trip they had a cable channel that covered the game 24/7. I think they call it baduk.

The mind hungers for that on which it feeds.

Its a fascinating game
I am thinking of playing
I'm an old chess player. This game really intrigues me
The documentary is interesting in how differently humans and a computer approach the game
A human will try to score points as situations develop because that's how you win
The computer strategy is not to develop points as the game goes on but to make sure the computer has the majority in the end
Thee human is looking at the small picture while the computer is constantly looking at the big picture end game

Just watched Searching for Sugarman
Documentary about Sixto Rodriguez
A struggling singer song writer out of Detroit that had a couple albums in the early 70's that went nowhere
But
Unknown to him, those albums hit it big in South Africa. Real big. Bigger then Elvis.
He was a gigantic star in South Africa and he had no idea

Finally saw The Martian on Youtube
TV. No wonder it won so many awards,
it's outstanding.

Saw The Equalizer again. It's tour de force
Denzel, he's so believable in this role.
They're making the sequel right now.
Great bad guy too, almost like a Bond
villain.

Fascinating documentary
I love Stanley Kubrick films
This Doc really gives some interesting insight into how Kubrick's movies were made
Its not about Stanley Kubrick
Its about His key assistant Leon Vitali
He 1st starred in Barry Lyndon and gave up his acting career to work for Kubrick

The Ballad of Buster Scruggs
An anthology film comprised of six stories, each dealing with a different aspect of life in the Old West.
Love the Cohen brothers. I'll watch anything they make
1st story was the best with Buster Scruggs. Its a hoot
Really liked the bank robbing story.
I liked the Orator story, the ending is haunting.
Digging for gold pretty good
The Wagon train, kind of a weird story but a great ending with the Indians
The last story, stagecoach, kind of went nowhere

Overall, I give it 4 out of 5 stars

Coen brothers.
I liked No Country For Old Men, particularly the way we learn of the wife's death.

The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, on Prime. There aren't
enough words to describe how good this series
is. It puts everything else to shame. 17,500 reviews
on Prime, 92% are 5 stars. I've never seen that
before.

I watched season 1 six months ago, season 2 is in
10 days so I'm watching it again. The writing,
the production values, the acting. This is almost
like theatre and not TV. It captures the mood
of the late 50's perfectly. The whole thing is
marvelous. It was nominated for 11 Emmy's
and won 8 of them. It should have won all
11.
