Of course you should do your own research,

My daughter is the expert on the pill,
she would be screaming in your face
right now and you would be cowering
like a little kid.

She was Valedictorian of her class, got
a free ride all the way thru graduate
school and is a college math professor.
She also teaches a class on Women's
Rights. The pill has literally changed her
life for the better. When she was in her
teens, her time of the month had her
in bed for 2 days with unbearable cramps.
The pill got rid of them forever. She's
now an expert on the dangers and benefits
of oral contraception. They fact that a man,
and a man who has nothing to do with women,
would be lecturing her and women on the
dangers of the pill, would put her into a fury
that would have you on your back praying
for Jesus to 'take me now, please take me.'

The dangers are small, the benefits are huge.

Let's be clear Bob I'm not talking about the pill not being beneficial in some ways for women. I wonder and maybe your daughter could answer this question, what if they pill was actually made to stop menstrual cramps or acne or some of the other things it is used for instead of being first a contraceptive that is used to treat other things it was not made for? I do imagine that if she is your daughter she might just scream without really looking at the reason and research behind what I am saying. This is not just me a man saying this, this is more and more women who are waking up to the bill of goods that were sold to them. However I think your daughter sounds like she has more sense than what you give her credit for and I would be happy to have a reasonable passionate discussion with her about the dangers and benefits of oral contraception that we all know go beyond the scope of just medicine but also morality. Also I'm not lecturing anyone, just asking questions and trying to have a discussion not a shouting match.

What are the benefits for the vast majority of women that take this medicine to disrupt their natural fertility in order to simply avoid getting pregnant? Is there other ways, natural ways they could avoid getting pregnant if that is what they wanted? Of course there is. We are just talking about the pill, lets not get started about the downright dangerous other forms of contraceptives marketed to women who have died because of them and who are know out of business paying off huge lawsuits because women's health was not as important as new ways to keep them from conceiving. You know now that you got me started I'm pretty fired up, bring on your daughter I put in a few minutes we would both be yelling at you for your views together about pornography, contraception, and the like - it might actually lead you to finally starting to really pray to Jesus to take you now.

No you wouldn't. For one thing, she'd
be insulted that you would even be
sticking your nose in where it doesn't
belong. Women don't need men to
tell them what to do anymore, especially
when it concerns their bodies. She
would clean your clock, and rightfully so.

What do you care. Your goal is to keep
them pregnant and spitting out more
Catholic babies. That's always been the
reason the Church has been against all
forms of birth control. It's why Catholics
have huge families, Mormons too. It
guarantee's that the religion will carry
on into the future. The Church has to
quit pretending they give one whit about
a woman's health. It's their bottom line
they're concerned about, keeping the
cult stocked with warm bodies.

Are you saying that men should not be legitimately concerned with women's health? Come on haven't we moved past that time. I think we can all male and female look at reason and research and have a good discussion about these things. We should all care about each other and the other person's well being.

Maybe this is why you dare to tell me about what you think the real reason is behind the Church's teaching concerning contraception. I hope you are really basing your comments on legitimate concern because resisting the urge to rightly cold cock someone can be hard when they stick their nose into something they really have no understanding about and are only based on misconceptions and prejudices. Tell me specifically what in the document Humane Vitae gave you the impression that what you say is the reason for the Church's teaching. I hope to God you can answer me.

She ... is a college math professor.

Really?! Has she ever taken an interest in turning that skill towards the study of gambling?

WebMD says MORE THAN HALF of the women who take the pill do so for reasons other than avoiding pregnancy.

http://www.webmd.com/sex/birth-control/features/other-reasons-to-take-the-pill

This 2011 study says 14% take the pill for non-contraceptive purposes, including 33% of teens

http://www.guttmacher.org/media/nr/2011/11/15/

interesting stats breakdown of contraceptive choices, including by religion of the person:
http://www.guttmacher.org/pubs/fb_contr_use.html

such as:
Quote:
• Some 68% of Catholics, 73% of Mainline Protestants and 74% of Evangelicals who are at risk of unintended pregnancy use a highly effective method (i.e., sterilization, the pill or another hormonal method, or the IUD).
• Only 2% of at-risk Catholic women rely on natural family planning; the proportion is the same even among those women who attend church once a month or more.

They will be the first to tell you it's
none of your damned business, they
are perfectly capable of taking care
of themselves. Something the Church
can't even imagine..

Never trust what a religion says for being
the reason they do anything. No contraception
because it interferes with god's plan is pure
BS. That's the convenient reason to tell
the flock. The real reason is, more babies
born into the religion means a bright future
for growth of the faith. It's the orig pyramid
scheme, always keep the base bringing in
new converts, converted or born into, keeps
the Church's coffers full. Always follow the money,
especially where god is concerned.

Why is it none of my business to care for another person? I can't count the number of times I have been grateful for those who helped me even when I thought I could take care of myself. The fact is I don't know everything, none of us do and we all need help. If someone won't listen to me just because I am a man that is strange but understandable. There are plenty of women who would be happy to share the same information.

Could I tell you that this is none of your damned business and that you obviously don't understand what you are talking about because you are not a Catholic or religious for that matter? We are perfectly fine taking care of ourselves. Something you secular folks can't even imagine.
