The sad thing about war is that almost all of the people killed are the "wrong" people.

By that I mean they are not the ones whose policies and decisions led to war; they're just dragged into it by their government either by patriotism or conscription.

The politicians are the true villains and the ones who should be targeted and destroyed, not the general populace.

Of course there were some (many actually) examples of high ranking Germans and Japanese being granted clemency if they were scientifically valuable which I guess shows war crimes (generally the most horrific) can be overlooked if they can contribute to medical or scientific progression.

You are young but remember that history is written by the winners. The 2700 people that died in the twin towers is still treated like an extreme action. Meanwhile the USA is closing in on a million Covid deaths. Are you going to read all there names for decades?

My guess is that COVID 100 years from now will be treated like the Spanish Flu which is almost 100 years ago. People will remember it as a troubled time that hit and disrupted life, and the names that will be remembered will be leaders and innovators. Nobody is going to read all of the COVID names anymore than all of the war death names, the statistics will be import (just like how the Spanish Flu killed more Americans than WWI, COVID will probably be compared to current conflicts).

At some point a virus will likely take down 50% of mankind. I think it happens in the 2200s when we will have already lost half of what we have now in terms of population. I do not think the china virus is the one that does it.

Then no one will have to listen to pro-virus-anti-vaxxers for very long because they will be dead fairly soon. The rest will assume plague standards established when we knew means of the spread, even if we didn't have good medical intervention.
