Back to my point. It seems often a little surveillance would be more in order sometimes. They have all these "stingray" devices, exothermic cameras and so forth. Unless lives are in immediate danger, I don't like to see this no knock, guns drawn shoot the family dog first thing. It's really rotten when it's the wrong house or the dog didn't have it coming. You know how integrated a dog can be in a family.

If a K-9 gets killed in the line of duty or old age, they have a full funeral for it, like their dogs lives matter. Quit shooting the dogs, use sleep gas like the Russians did in the theater or something. DLM, dogs lives matter : )

How about the Swat team that threw a flash grenade into a baby's play pen.

Somebody is hoaxing you EB. I already saw a couple pics, that's not it.

Good grief, OF COURSE that's not it.
That's a pic of a BOMB. I was being
ironic. I should have known better
than to think it would be understood.

This is what I should have posted:

I'm not sure, I guess they somehow feel responsible, reminiscing about a forgotten era? Some of them still remember how the country was [for them] after ww2 and the great build out. When unions had some strength, thinking it was going to continue to get better, the world would be at peace??

Police, no-knock, stun grenades, tear gas, batons, battering rams....

anyone want to do a study of arrests as depicted in newspapers and films of the twenties and thirties?

Hand cuffs went on the front. criminals did not have to get on their knees much less be forced to the ground. there was no yelling or screaming, police were polite. effective, but polite.

I recall one author who was picked up hitchhiking and was being driven by the sheriff in a rural county. they chatted about county history and the sheriff decided to stop and buy the kid a lunch and continue their conversation. for some reason the waitress asked the sheriff if the kid was in custody and the sheriff said 'No, he's just a friend'. Nothing about the demeanor of the sheriff indicated maltreatment, there were no cuffs or shackles, etc. the author actually contributed some comments about a local Indian fight that had been made by the Indians but which the town historical society did not know of.

remember a Peck sack? Housewives would fix one for a young man who had wandered by and volunteered to chop firewood or something. He would get "a standup" on the porch as a minimum, maybe even a 'three corned' meal or a "square meal" ... and after some hours of chopping would he would get a Peck sack to send him on his way with even more food. Now it would be a shot gun and a trespassing charge or something.

even today where hopping freights is a bit more dangerous than it was, girls learn how to do it and railroad employees still give information about which trains are making up and which direction they will be going and whether they are being humped or not. the railroad police are not open minded but the rail road employees and yard crews are helpful to this day.

BROOKSVILLE, Fla. – Authorities have arrested a Florida woman who they say tried to stab a deputy with a large sword or machete inside a mobile home filled with thousands of knives, swords and bladed instruments.

Dykema faces multiple charges. Deputies said they had removed more than 3,500 "bladed instruments" from the home.

Wow, I might worry about her in the "Lorena Bobbit" sense with all those blades around.

You know, something like "Dykema's boyfriend found with penis missing and 3000 knives sticking in him."

2.3 million answer Indian state's post for 368 menial jobs.

Not really USA news, but look at the details. Almost 10% had a graduate degree or better. Perhaps a lesson that we are producing too many degrees and "education" is not what is the problem off the jobless?

There's other factors too. I mean here, not necessarily there.

You can't always get some people training in what's needed until they absolutely have no choice because there's no work in the area they wanted to work in.

Some countries (like China I think) will pretty much force people into certain occupations, for which they've shown aptitude.

Well, the problem there is more it is a piss poor nation with a rough economy. But you beg a good point. We are messed up here. There are so many jobs you always hear about. "We just need people that know basic math, we'll train them for the rest!" Yet we got people came out with their degree and either don't know about this, still don't have enough math and basics, or just wouldn't take them if they wanted. So they make Starbucks and Barnes & Noble homes of the most overqualified people on earth.

In the meantime, should one suggest college is not a good course of action they get creamed in public opinion.

I wish I know how those places worked. We had two Chinese students speak when I was in HS, about 1987. They said there was no unemployment, but some peopled were "on a waiting list." I just wonder if they tell you "show up at factory 'x'" or you apply like you do here.
