As far as kids and guns, does the NRA advise owners to know if their gun has been disturbed? By disturbed I mean, moved and returned to the same place.

I remember reading a study excerpt about how kids in the house find just about everything. Kids are nosy and curious and don't strictly obey rules. And just like a lot of older people figure, if no one sees something they did, then it's as good as they never did it. Kids figured out the same thing.

Anyway, in some cases, kids had already, touched, played, or picked up a gun even before a shooting or accidental shooting occurred on a later date, or knew where the gun was kept or hidden even though they were never shown.

They do provide advice on storage of guns in addition to other gun safety concerns:

"Store guns so that they are not accessible to children and other unauthorized users. Gun shops sell a wide variety of safes, cases, and other security devices. While specific security measure may vary, a parent must, in every case, assess the exposure of the firearm and absolutely ensure that it is inaccessible to a child."

Yep. It is just Rand Paul wanting a ban...
http://www.theatlantic.com/politics/archive/2014/10/democrats-defy-obama-in-favor-of-ebola-travel-ban/381712/

You can't have it both ways. You can't need an Ebola Czar without having people concerned enough to consider taking measures other countries have already taken successfully to stop the spread of Ebola.

I still think the whole thing is overblown but Rand Paul didn't make President Obama appoint an Ebola Czar...so there is some deep concern on both sides

I can have it both ways.
Rand Paul, possible republican presidential nominee, any Republicans and any DEMOCRATs, need to stop this ebola mania.
Its irresponsible, especially from a person considering a run for the Presidency.
Ebola is hard to get.

edit (changed Ron to Rand, meant Rand :-)

Start at the top:

President Obama--he actually appointed an Ebola Czar

If the President thought it was necessary to appoint a Czar (with no medical experience) to handle this issue, why is it that Rand Paul is so off the wall in wanting to do the same things other countries have done to prevent the spread of Ebola. The President blew up the issue as much as Paul did and the President garners much more attention.

You mention Paul by name; you skipped over President Obama. You'd ignore his actions but toss stones at Paul.

Again, I thought Shep Smith did a great job pointing out how overblown this whole thing is at this point. I heard he was a liberal and that he is gay, but I don't give two craps about that--he pointed out how ridiculous the coverage of Ebola was...which cut at both sides of the aisle.

I included Obama "any DEMOCRATs"
I even typed it in upper case which I did not do when typing republican.
Last I checked, Obama still a Dem :-)

You named one person...so your intent was obvious--more emphasis on Rand Paul than on the one who is actually in charge, President Obama. He is just a DEMOCRAT...

So let's take the word "CZAR". The official title is Ebola Response Coordinator.

Republicans were pressuring Obama to "do something". Normally, this has been handled by the CDC. But the CDC has been under a great deal of scrutiny for mismanagement and getting into the headlines for bad policies and procedures. And the CDC was widely criticized for not putting out protocols in a reasonable timeframe and putting out the wrong protocols (which called for standard infection control measures). And funding from Congress and its alternative sources have not been consistent.

Given the panic level of 1 person catching Ebola (now QUADRUPLED to four) and the ensuing front page headlines of an oncoming pandemic capable of wiping out modern society (according to CNN and Fox anyway), the extremists on both sides wanted Obama to do something unreasonable: spend an unrealistic amount of resources to control a disease that is quite unlikely a danger in the greater scheme of things. Thousands of people die every year from Influenza. Hundreds of thousands die from cancer. Millions are dying due to obesity. Then there's car accidents, gun deaths, and random deaths that just happen.

Even tornadoes have killed 45 Americans this year. 24 people this year (so far) have died from lightning strikes, more than what Ebola will likely do in the coming year.

Where's Obama's lightning czar?

The CDC was inept. Instead of a Czar of anything, the President should have moved swiftly to change leadership at the CDC.

Panic was not limited to the far right or far left--there has been plenty of extra panic to go around. In times of panic, leaders stand up, state the problem, and present a plan for fixing it. I give neither President Obama or Rand Paul credit for doing that. They simply added to the hysteria.

So we are going to say Obama did something just because "Republicans pressured him?"

Really?

Would be the first time he did something they asked.

I'm not giving Obama credit for anything. Hiring an Ebola "czar" was stupid. It should have been handled properly by the leadership at the CDC according to the actual threat that Ebola is.

Fair enough and agreed. The way you worded it made me wonder. IMHO the appointment is a sign of a POTUS who knows he has a very weak hand.
