Ice doesn't have to completely melt to cause a problem. There are stresses going on in the artic regions. Weaker than usual ice will crack sooner. That's why they talk about these big pieces breaking off. It will likely increase. As the float away, they float into warmer waters.

if that's supposed to be showing the trend then it won't matter, as we will all asphyxiate from CO2 in no time seeing as how China and India are doing nothing

Meanwhile the believers just let the scientists do their thinking for them. I have yet to hear one say more than "the scientists said....."

Bring a scientist on here and I will say the same I have always said.

I will repeat that the skeptics I have seen tend to be far more informed than the believers. No believer I have met knows how much CO2 in the atmosphere. But they can sure keep saying "FOUR LEGS GOOD, TWO LEGS BAD" all day.

CO2 concentration is about 420 ppm, about 50% higher than before the industrial age; higher than the human species has ever experienced; a level not seen for about 3 million years.

Meaning not even 0.05%. Think about how little that is.

Is it surprising that trace amounts of a substance can have a large effect on a system? If the amount is too small to matter then maybe no one should care if there was zero CO2 in the atmosphere.

We would not have to care because we would all be dead.

Collecting that CO2 data is the kind of thing scientists are good at. They’re not so good at their predictions. But yes I think any reasonable person has to be concerned. And, as I’ve said before, it’d be great if we could get away from so much use of fossil fuels just from a general pollution standpoint, never mind anything else.

So far we aren’t doing so good at it. Our fearless leaders are listening to crackpots who are screwing everything up. The whole coercive ownership plans fiasco around electric cars is certainly illustrative, increasing the cost of owning vehicles, causing it’s own pollution problems with the mining for materials for the batteries, along with building scale problems and other concerns… meanwhile not reducing CO2 by significant amounts unless the production of electric power is changed away from fossil fuels. The geniuses out there have decided the way to accomplish that is to force power producers to stop building new power plants altogether.

As an aside, at 5% CO2 [50,000 ppm] is where, say, astronauts have serious inability to continue functioning properly. I think you’d have to wonder if effects don’t start showing up much lower, even at 5000. I was curious as to how long it will take using the Keeling curve rate to get to 5000 ppm. It represents an increase of about 0.5% per year, which is certainly a lot. Using a calculator, I got an answer of, about, 700 years from now. No, I don’t think that was a useful line of inquiry, and is in fact why you don’t see it discussed, but I thought I’d share it.

The Keeling curve

Ramaswamy is suggesting a pivot, that's more or less mitigation. He is suggesting better air conditioning and heating will save people and other things along that line. I'll be interested to see if more Republicans start embracing this. It is perhaps a devious way to not explain why some will pivot from human caused global warming is not a problem or not real; to we've got a better way -- just forget we weren't on board that it was a problem to now we're acting like we have to do something. Drill drill drill is going to be a great answer to suddenly changing their position and hope no one notices.

The idea seems similar to a company arguing if you let us pollute your lake, we'll use some of the money we make from our chemical plant to supply you with better water filters so you can still drink it. Or if you let us sell cigarettes, we'll provide better cancer care centers. That sounds like a potential Republican approved solution to me.

Is there any part of your life that does not revolve around "the republicans?"

Only thing worse, is someone who must be bothering wasting their time taking notice of it. If I watched paint dry, you'd watch me watch paint dry.

No need to take time to notice. It is about the only thing you talk about.
