you're still arguing that global warming is taking place like once you win that argument, one that even AZ is probably not trying to oppose per se, that means crackpots should be given a free hand and we must eliminate the internal combustion engine immediately and if people die in their homes due to the high cost of heating them, tough!

Oh, wait, you've been watching TV, and reading this and that article, and your social media, and you haven't heard about this latter bit? That it is a cautionary tale to let crackpots start running things?

google "deaths in the UK home heating costs" and see how many articles come up [if they realize this they will really want to fix that and probably will]

Why are you worried about crackpots on just one side of any issue? Has that ever been true?

I could put it in auto news, but since most are focused on the connection one way or another to this issue.

Toyota just unveiled plans for new electric vehicle battery technology that could offer up to 900 miles of driving range, and many are calling it a potential game-changer.

At a recent briefing, the company announced big news about new solid-state EV battery tech. Saying it simplified production of the material used to make solid-state batteries, the company plans to roll out a model by 2025 that will extend cruising range by 20%.

A higher-performance version is still under research and development but has the potential to deliver 50% more cruising range — over 900 miles, according to Toyota. That could get you from New York to Chicago and then some, and charge time would be just 10 minutes.

the crackpots on the other side do not 'have the microphone' ... the crackpots on the Crisis side keep getting the mike handed to them and furthermore don't get called out for their mistakes

it might get switched around, watch out what happens when heating bills go the moon or ICE vehicles get ridiculously expensive* or even not for sale . Once the public turns on these people it'll be hard to get that public back

* you might think this has happened already but watch what happens next

Transferring that much energy in 10 minutes would take a battery that could accept over a 1000 KWHR of power in that time. That is roughly what the average home uses in a month. The heat that transferring that amount of energy in a short time is a huge problem and I don't think it can be solved in a vehicle in a practical way. It is the physics of the transfer.

I think that is just short sighted thinking. What would we have said 200 years ago about people having basic lighting without fire? Sending sound and pictures through the air? I think the only real question is how long will it take to do it or to find an alternative way?

Mitigation may end up being the only real option. Which applied is effectively similar to not actually solving something like constant forest fires, but building houses that won't burn down.

I don't think either of us will be around long enough to find out if you are right.

...or they could actually allow the undergrowth and other forest issues to be properly managed and reduce the fuel available to burn. That would not solve anything, but just letting everything pile up becoming fuel for fires is not the answer, either.

There are lots of solutions that are easier than we think if we just keep zealots from driving the bus. We also need to keep the ones that think there is no damage to the climate of our doing off the road, too.

Meanwhile the believers just let the scientists do their thinking for them. I have yet to hear one say more than "the scientists said....."

Bring a scientist on here and I will say the same I have always said.

I will repeat that the skeptics I have seen tend to be far more informed than the believers. No believer I have met knows how much CO2 in the atmosphere. But they can sure keep saying "FOUR LEGS GOOD, TWO LEGS BAD" all day.

CO2 concentration is about 420 ppm, about 50% higher than before the industrial age; higher than the human species has ever experienced; a level not seen for about 3 million years.
