Somehow we got from the Spanish word for palm reader to the name of god over in the Spanish word of the day thread. We get some pretty interesting discussions going there, so even those with no interest in Spanish may enjoy the often interesting discussions that get bubble up.

However, everyone who knows me know that I don't like hijacking threads, so made this special place to discuss out what god's name is. Okay, vote and discuss...

God has no name, that's the point. God is everything in
the universe, god is the universe. We are all part of
god, not separate. That can have no name. It's a mystery
that we've been a part of forever, and will continue to
be a part of. Death is just a concept, what we really are
continues on.

Just kidding, god's real name is Melvin. Duh..

The God I conceive is not very anthropomorphic compared to tradition, so if He has a name, it is our name for him. And that can be any name. Ancient Jews and modern Whatevers would disagree I guess.

I wish I could choose many names. The first two are the same and YHWH means, "I am". Also Jesus says He is the Alpha and Omega. He is also considered the Lion of the Tribe of Judah. So I guess I could chose six of those possible names.

Sorry; I should have enabled voting for more than one choice that time.

God, Jesus, YHWH or Yahweh, Jehovah, Elohim, 'ilaha, Elaha, Satnam, Allah, King of Kings, The Great Spirit, Iaoue, Hashem, Alpha and Omega, Shiva, Buddha... I could go on.

All different, but all the same. Thousands of years, millions of followers, and every one used to personify the unknown, to give a place holder until it is known. IMO, of course.

That's the title used by Persian kings, through all the incarnations of the Persian Empire.

In Catholic School a Nun teacher explained to us that at the time of Abraham if someone knew your name and you did not know theirs then that person had some kind of subtle power over you. Had to do with some social status she said, and hard for us to understand today. She claimed this was the reason God did not give a direct name.

Timothy 6:15

"...which He will bring about at the proper time--He who is the blessed and only Sovereign, the King of kings and Lord of lords,..."

So also the title of Jesus, it appears.

Anyways, Xerxes I was a Persian king. Also fancied himself a god.

I stand by my list ;)
