since we run a huge deficit, which taxes do you want to raise, or which programs do you want to trim or cut?

I'm curious how Trump's killing thousands of jobs at the IRS is supposed to bring down the deficit you're so worried about.

50 to 90 thousand jobs. The most difficult taxes to review are the high-income people. So, they'll get a big break, just by the fact the staff is going to be hampered by reduced staffing.

Instead, likely cuts to Medicare and Medicaid.

Same old story.

Then by your logic we should hire a million more IRS agents since they are a revenue generator?

Bottom line is neither you nor I know how many IRS agents are needed to accomplish the job they are supposed to be doing. But as usual, you and the Dems just figure if Trump is firing some it is bad. Which is just as stupid as those thinking if Trump is firing them it must be good.

As is most likely, Trump will have gone too far, but I can’t say that with certainty. You don’t think it’s at least possible that a large swath of these employees can be successfully replaced by some AI version?

Medicaid is a disaster from any way you look at it. On Medicaid? Feeling sick? Don’t want to pay the $10 for an Uber? Call an ambulance! Cancel an appointment because you are engrossed in the latest episode of Judge Joe Brown? No penalty! Working under the table so not ‘showing’ any income? Take the free insurance!

Doctor trying to collect the meager pittance Medicaid pays? Triple the paperwork. Quadruple the errors. Quintuple the delays. Octuple the audits. And 1% the customer service.

Uh, no, I think the IRS director and his subordinates who are doing the job daily, actually look at what they need, not the damn stupid way, it is being done.

I can't comment on Medicaid or Medicare, except that my same assertion that reducing staff won't improve service or processing accounts correctly. Or anything else you wish for.

Btw the way, I wrote to the White House and said, "fire everyone at the Whie House and see if you can save more money that way."

What's good for the rest of us is good for the Orange Oaf.

Quite naive. My mother was a Federal employee. Adjudicator at the VA. She was chastised by fellow employees for handling TOO MANY cases. Made it clear that FEWER employees were needed to cover their caseload. So under peer pressure she worked slower and less efficiently.

Also relayed that towards the end of a budget year the remaining dollars would be spent on unnecessary stuff, because if there was leftover, your budget would be cut for next year. THAT is the Federal Government that Trump/DOGE is up against.

They're not fixing anything, they're reducing staffing. That's like downsizing Enron about 5%, but leaving everything the same.

As I’ve said multiple times, the concept is good, just Trump is not smart enough to be the guy to do it. He does a lot for the ‘show’ more so than the ‘result’. A smooth way to cut the Federal Workforce is to just ‘under-replace’ those retiring. Two retire. Hire one. See if you can still get the work done. If you can’t, then hire to the old staffing levels. If you can, then repeat.

NY state has had tolls on a bunch of roads for years. They eliminated the toll takers entirely. It’s now EZ Pass or Toll By Mail. I remember when it was happening. The State announced there would be no layoffs; that the toll takers would be reassigned. Of course you could feel bad for a laid off toll taker, but really, reassigned? I promise you if a private enterprise used toll takers, and hired people specifically with ‘toll taker’ skills, they don’t transfer them to the nursing division when they no longer have a need for toll takers.

Bottom line…. the government is not in business to be a job provider. It’s in business to provide services to the community it’s that the community wants them to.

Nor is it in the business to do only the things one side or another agree with.

A federal manager being honest about what he needs. That’s so cute and precious!

It's funny how little you care how much government money Trump spends on himself.
