The thing you do not understand about Trump is he's rarely doing the thing that it looks like he's doing. He's the master of the deal so he's also the master of sleight of hand. He would have excelled in the used car business. First and foremost he's a salesman but so are all self made billionaires.

It’s possible for military purposes we want a bigger footprint in Greenland but have been rebuffed. Want to bet whether or not Greenland will happily agree to a big US military base there now?
Canada won’t be the 51st state, but want to bet whether we get some sort of trade concessions that never would have happened under a Harris administration? Want to bet whether Panama now gives better rates to use its Canal?

Can his tactics backfire? Certainly possible. But anyone predicting the final result is guessing.

Greenland has less than 60,000 residents. If the US offered Greenland a payment of $1,000,000 per PERSON, you don’t think they’d vote for it? That’s ‘only’ $60 billion! Musk could buy it himself!

I disagree with your opinion that the President cannot be reached as a target. Perhaps he is better protected but the protection is not perfect. I wish it were. It isn't just a case of getting rid of rotten apples; it is a fact of life that bad people can figure out how to do bad things.
