They're showing a new released video when the police officer discovers someone on the roof. I see analyst making something of the guy saying "we told secret service they needed someone on that roof".

That doesn't really convince me, because I see that kind of behavior on accident videos. The last one I watched a couple weeks ago (Maybe I can find it again) the guy in the car in front after driving into the other lane immediately gets out asking why the driver with the dash cam who wasn't at fault drove into his lane.

I think it's sometimes a self-defense mode when something goes wrong. They immediately start blaming someone else as in, "I didn't do that, why did you do that?" It really sounded like that kind of behavior.

Except that no one should have had to tell the Secret Service that they needed someone up there. They should be well versed in protecting folks in every situation. They have a responsibility to plan and execute protection without fail. So someone saying "I told you so" is irrelevant to what should have happened; if it really was something discussed pre-event, it makes their failure even more complete.

They have a job to do. They need to fix their issues and do that job. There is no room for a "B Team"...

Not really what I’m saying. Even if the local police were the one’s designated to put someone up there, the Secret Service should have verified everyone.was in place. And they;ve already said, they are already responsible if there was a failure.

I guess I’m going with the “hot roof” theory. A local cop was supposed to be up there, but went inside the building instead. I guess we’ll see how it shakes out.

…The Secret Service has hundreds of candidates vying for single spots, (from what I’ve heard). I can’t imagine a more basic protocol than showing up at your assigned position. So, I’m imagining it was more likely a local cop. Just a theory. Still, I have no problem blaming the Secrtet Service for not verifying the position was filled.

Exactly...someone has to be in charge and take charge.

A RonC post I can wholeheartedly agree with!

Anyone with even the least bit of common sense would realize that rooftop was a prime spot for a shooter. Unfathomable that he was able to get up there.

It was an epic fail. Surely the service should be thinking " Where would I position myself as an assassin" and then have those positions covered.

BUT, remember it's 24/7 365 day security against unknown potential adversaries from lone shooter to poisoning burger chef, to potential bomber,
to whatever, with a good number of days where drumph was 'out there' That's a lot of opportunities to cover.....

And they missed one. A momentary lapse of reason. Haven't we all been guilty of that?

Drumph, like any other politician would be a soft target to an intelligent, well equipped adversary. Novichok on his golf cart steering wheel or his lectern, or any ladies gusset, for example, would be a cinche.

If someone was assigned to be on that roof-SS, local cop, FBI, whoever-and wasn't, then heads need to roll, including the mofo who as supposed to be on the roof and wasn't.

If someone wasn't assigned to be on that roof, then we need to find out who said "There's no need to put someone on that".

I do wonder why they’ve not gotten around to telling us who assigned what? Or if no one assigned anything there.

I'd restrict access to the jet by using loyal security personnel and put personal mechanics on the payroll.

Trump has the right to decline secret service security as a candidate and former president if he wishes (I doubt that he will.)
