Yeah. And they schooled you on it, if you didn’t notice.

Geez you are so simple! I fully understand the process that is used to pick a nominee. My point is that it takes it out of the voters’ hands. I would have liked to see Harris versus Newsom, or Whitmer, or whoever would have thrown their hat in the ring. The ring being a public election. Not the back door deals that will determine the pick.

I’m still waiting for one post of real interest from you. I won’t hold my breath.

You are a rightie who will never vote for a Dem, why would you think anyone care cares what you think about how the Dems pick their nominee?

Let's say Joe croaks today. Instead of an open convention according to the party's rules, how would SooPoo have the party choose the nominee?

Let's say Donny croaks today. Instead of the 168 members of the RNC choosing the nominee now that the convention is over, how would SooPoo have the party choose the nominee?

Are you also in favor of getting rid of the Electoral College system as well?

Just trying to figure out how far you are willing to go with the "takes it out of the voters' hands" thing.

I’ll tackle the electoral college question first. It clearly favors ‘people like me’ who tend to vote for conservative candidates. But if I was starting over, I’d never have anything as stupid as the electoral college. Win a state by 1 vote and get 38 electoral votes, but lose a different state by 100,000 votes and your opponent gets 4 electoral votes? (Extreme examples). Our country should be one person, one EQUAL vote.

As far as the replacement for a candidate who can’t run after the primary vote is done, there are no ‘perfect’ solutions. I first thought of picking the second highest vote getter, but clearly many potential candidates (Harris, as an example) don’t run because they are supporting the winning candidate.

My point is that the Democrats just want to replace Biden because they think he will lose to Trump. I haven’t heard ONE Democrat say Biden is incompetent and should resign the presidency. They are NOT afraid of Biden serving another 4 years; they are afraid of 4 years of Trump.

So? Isn't that the name of the game, to actually win the election?

Supposedly the Vice President wasn't selected along with the President by the voters. But to prove otherwise, let's say a Presidential candidate were to insist on picking a serial killer on death row for Vice? He's not going to get elected. So, it must be they were actually elected as a team since the Presidential candidate would not get elected if he insisted on a bad enough vice.

So, IMO, the vice president was approved by the voters already. The democratic process already occurred, even though people don't think so.

The voters know who the team is when they vote in November. They get the replacement on the ticket. They know that.

If the President dies/resigns/ is removed then yes, the VP is the de facto new ‘elected by the people’ President. To be the party nominee for the upcoming election is different. Being VP should not be an automatic guarantee to be your party’s nominee. You think if Bush II, after winning the primary for re-election, changed his mind, that Cheney just becomes the nominee? No way!

Then why have a primary at all? Shouldn’t the Democrat leaders just look at polling numbers at who has the best chance of beating Trump and pick that person and forego asking the people via a primary vote?

Maybe he would vote for a Democrat if they were electing in a manner he agrees with. I hate the fact that most people just vote on party lines. I still think we should remove all party designations and make people run only on their platform.

I’ve got a decade of old SOOPOO posts to back me up when I say: He wouldn’t.
