on an aside, just figured out that a coroner is an official, often elected to office, with duties including determining method of death in homicide cases. But he is almost never also the Medical Examiner. I had always thought they were usually one and the same, I think I had been led to believe that ... but maybe it was just me being dense

She was a mother before she became mental ill and psychotic. She became psychotic before she became a murderer.

So, according to this explanation the primary plan was suicide not killing her children. Killing the children’s was the fix to try to make things alright after she was gone.
