Very small but seems like a skew. Bonds was even intentionally walked with the bases loaded so he got an RBI for that one and any others. |

| odiousgambit Member since: Oct 28, 2012 Threads: 165 Posts: 6376 | I'm convinced my ability to recognize faces is slower than it used to be, this comes up watching movies and trying to sort actors out. At first I had a hell of a time distinguishing the two main actresses in 'Oppenheimer', both having black hair. There is a part of the brain that does this face recognition. Even machines have this problem with race LOL, see below It has to kick in? It's not automatic? Almost everybody notices the below I bet, when viewing other races. This particular problem goes away over time, I've found. >>> What is the own-race bias for face recognition in a multiracial society? The own-race bias (ORB) is a reliable phenomenon across cultural and racial groups where unfamiliar faces from other races are usually remembered more poorly than own-race faces (Meissner and Brigham, 2001) __ What is it called when you can't recognize faces? What is prosopagnosia? Prosopagnosia (also known as face blindness or facial agnosia) is a neurological disorder characterized by the inability to recognize faces. The term comes from the Greek words for “face” and “lack of knowledge.” __ Why is facial recognition controversial? Critics of facial recognition software in the private sector also fear two other abuses of the technology: discrimination and privacy violation, Foster added. A federal study released in 2019 found that facial recognition systems misidentified people of color more often than white people.Jan 7, 2023 __ What causes hyperfamiliarity for faces? HFF may be produced by impaired left hemisphere identification of unique facial features and excessive right hemisphere processes that link in- dividual faces with emotional and personal meaning, leading to spurious familiarity feelings. ___ What is the difference between apophenia and pareidolia? Pareidolia is a type of apophenia involving the perception of images or sounds in random stimuli. A common example is the perception of a face within an inanimate object—the headlights and grill of an automobile may appear to be "grinning". People around the world see the "Man in the Moon". | odiousgambit Member since: Oct 28, 2012 Threads: 165 Posts: 6376 | Actually I take ‘drinking responsibly’ pretty seriously, this has been going on with me for 40+ years. I’m aware that for anyone that needs to take steps, totally abstaining is the only sure course. Any other course might ultimately fail. I'll venture to say that anyone who drinks has problems managing it at least at times [other than the glass of wine at dinner only types]. Having said all that, sometimes it’s refreshing to allow yourself to thumb your nose at all those warnings we see all the time, so I will … mind you, it’s tongue in cheek Reasons not to Quit Drinking 1] better to stay heart healthy! Is one drink a day good for your heart? Previous epidemiological studies have suggested that light to moderate alcohol consumption (one drink per day for women and one to two drinks per day for men) is associated with a lower risk of cardiovascular disease 2] you need to stay hydrated Does beer dehydrate you more than hydrate? Several other studies have drawn the same conclusion: beer might actually hydrate us adequately! 3] stopping can mess with you What happens to your head when you stop drinking? The withdrawal/negative affect stage (associated with circuits in the extended amygdala): When the person stops drinking, reward circuit activity decreases while stress circuits activate. Together, these changes fuel negative emotional states such as anxiety, dysphoria, and irritability 4] your digestion needs the booze! Why does my side hurt when I stop drinking alcohol? Sometimes when going through alcohol detox, you may experience withdrawal symptoms, one of which is stomach pain. This happens because the alcohol stimulates your stomach to produce a high level of enzymes that are supposed to help with digestion 5] you definitely don’t want to get PAWS! Years? Yikes! How long do detox headaches last? Yes, alcohol detox can cause headaches. The headaches are a symptom of alcohol withdrawal. Symptom can begin with a mild headache but becomes severe about 72 hours after your last drink. The withdrawal headaches can persist for weeks, months, or years due to the onset of post-acute withdrawal syndrome (PAWS) 6] who has time for all those meetings? Because the Twelve Steps are the foundation of personal recovery in A.A., many groups devote one or more meetings a week to the study of each Step in rotation; some discuss two or three Steps at a time. | odiousgambit Member since: Oct 28, 2012 Threads: 165 Posts: 6376 | I've gotten interested in this from betting on the -1.5 run line on the home team. There are various ways the game can end abruptly when one run more than the visiting team is scored for the home team, that can't happen to the visiting team [that team can't have a walk-off]. Thus a team that gets hot with the batting, maybe no outs etc, doesn't get to score more runs and the bet loses. the below is an exception, one way extra runs score, though, while searching for such answers, it's implied that an RBI from a base hit ends the game with the first run that crosses the plate [even if other runners could cross the plate]. Trying to confirm that for sure, I instead kept running into answers for the card game and the boardgame "bottom of the 9th" and finally gave up >>> do extra runs get scored in the bottom of the 9th? Yes. An extra inning game can be won by as many as four runs if the game was tied, and there was a bases-loaded home run. I'm Still Standing, Yeah, Yeah, Yeah [it's an old guy chant for me] |

| DoubleGold Member since: Jan 26, 2023 Threads: 34 Posts: 4240 | When I was in Little League, I hit four home-runs in one game. But as I got older, the most I hit in one game was two and one was in an all-star game. I'm not sure what did it that day. I think it had to do with eating a bunch of carrots. But I felt like my biggest feat was when I hit a ball 3/4 up a huge pine tree outside of center field. I attributed that one to using a big bat size and the ball landed on the sweet part of the bat. |

The big ones why not to drink are: dellrium tremons, blacking out (different than passing out), and killing someone while driving intoxicated, not in any specific order. |

Yes, a home run scores all runners and the batter. I believe an automatic double is scored as a single if there are runners on second and third in the bottom of the 9th so only one run scores. I don't remember it ever happening in MLB. At my age a Life In Prison sentence is not much of a deterrent. |

Of course if out to twist things around like I was, it's the detox connected things that lend themselves to that most common symptoms of PAWS include: Difficulty with cognitive tasks, such as learning, problem solving, or memory recall Irritability Feelings of anxiety or panic Depressed mood Other symptoms may include: Obsessive-compulsive behaviors Difficulty maintaining social relationships Craving originally abused substances Apathy or pessimism Disturbances in sleep patterns Increased sensitivity to stress I'm Still Standing, Yeah, Yeah, Yeah [it's an old guy chant for me] |
