Of course they do. A true democracy would still be a disaster. too much power in the hands of people in one area that know literally nothing about those in other areas. Heck, way too many people don't know how steak ends up on a plate.

Steak..... I know. It's carved into portion sizes in meat factories, from big sheets of cow meat, which are grown by cows at cow factories. Other cow industries include milk, which is made by lady cows. some steaks are born in shrink wrap and frozed to stop the shrink wrap going soft. Steaks come in various shapes and sizes. There are metric steaks in Europe and kangaroo steaks in Australia.

Poorer quality cows get minced up and mixed with ham into hamburgers

Yes, and every American is allowed to live in any state that they wish to so the voter is exercising an option to have his vote count more or less.
At my age a Life In Prison sentence is not much of a detrrent.
