Ukraine conflict

Even if the Capitol falls, war doesn't end, as long as there is significant resistance. I hear saying they will fight with knives if they have to, so as long as they want to fight we should at least provide them with adequate weapons.

As far as the future, the countries outside NATO near Russia are really the ones that will be rethinking their positions. That's good for us. NATO will bolster its defenses now for quite some time. Years. That I'm not worried about.

The west now views Putin / Russia as a "pariah" due to Ukraine.

Maybe the defenders need a catchy slogan to rally around; I wonder how well this one would translate:

"You're darn tootin', it's Putin we're shootin'."

I wonder whether any Americans have traveled to Ukraine to pick up arms and defend Ukraine?

Their president openly begged for volunteers, saying he'd arm them.

Could be just the opportunity for a wannabe Hemingway to gather background material for a new, updated version of "For Whom the Bell Tolls."

I feel bad for Ukraine: the west says "We're rootin' for ya, buddy" while in fact geopolitics warrant not helping them too much at all.

Alone against the bear: not good.

Ukraine is asking for foreign volunteers to go help fight. I think many of you healthy posters should go and fight for the good of Ukraine.

As an atheist, NO country is worth dying for. This one life is all we get.

Can’t fathom the thinking that you die for your country and some God will be waiting upstairs to commend you for the atrocities you’ve taken part in. Just loony.

I understand your position, I simply disagree with you.

Some things in this world are worth dying for.

For example, if I saw someone trying to kidnap my kid I'd gladly put my life at risk to prevent the kidnapping, or if my house was on fire and I heard my kid screaming in a bedroom I'd do all I could to save my child, even if it killed me.

Our country is but an extension of our family.

Risking your life for something you believe in is not suicidal as you may emerge unscathed / unharmed.

Let me ask you this: if somehow, no matter how unlikely it may seem, an enemy invaded your country and was literally knocking on your door, would you fight to protect your family, knowing that if they're captured they'd be killed or raped and brutalized?

I have no kids and never want to have any. I think that’s why we differ so much on this, completely different life perspectives.

Of course if I had kids I could imagine willingly sacrificing myself for them.

I agree no country is worth dying for but I have no problem with people choosing to fight and die for their own reasons. I don't value life much so I have no issue with someone dying because some idiot didn't think McDonalds had the best French Fries. Clearly an inferior individual that probably deserves to die. Freedom Fries.

If anyone doesn't value their life, please stay standing up if someone starts shooting at the rest of us. If you don't mind, I don't mind.
