Having worked for a supermarket, I think it is a matter of connections, public perception, and acceptable losses.
They might go after shoplifters more aggressively, but if they do, they risk losing the shoplifters family and friends as customers.

That's not cancel culture; that's just accountability to the law. "Cancel culture," in the sense that I would use the term, is when you go after someone just for saying something you don't like...often years or decades ago.

It's probably not worth the costs associated with pursuing it. Many stores just have a, "Ban on sight," policy if they see the person again, but will otherwise just let people walk with items priced at or under $XX.xx or $X.xx amount.

Yeah its blatant hypocrisy.

Its really sad that there is zero outrage when police are killed doing their duty properly. But, the more disturbing thing is (at least from the members on here), the "blue lives matter" crowd only seem to care when police are killed by certain demographics.... When police arrest (not even in a violent way) people for violating as mask ordinance, full support from the right for protestors to stalk the officer's family at home and protest at their door (I don't think BLM has ever done anything like that even for extreme examples of more logical cases of police misconduct). And, when police are killed by Trump supporters, it goes back to the "red coat" argument.

Police are not perfect. But, what is more disturbing is when people in power encourage mob violence and then police get tasked with trying to keep the peace and when they get killed, the right calls them "patriots"....

I could be wrong, but I do not think that a single right wing person on here has condemned the riots in the capitol (I am happy to be corrected if wrong), because they know that they need to be loyal to the President. I am on the left, but I am at least consistent with my stance on this issue (and most issues for that matter even if it does not make me popular).

Riots are bad even if encouraged by politicians. Killing police trying to secure government buildings is bad even if encouraged by politicians Trying to stop a legal process is bad even encouraged by politicians. (its sad that this needs to be stated).

Not sure if I qualify as right wing.... I really think I’m ‘no wing’, but I’d go for the death penalty after conviction for whoever was responsible for killing the police officer. And I’d consider the death penalty for any of the people who stormed the Capitol. I consider the crime treason. I don’t give a damn if it is a Trump supporter or an ANTIFA person. You break into a federal building for the purpose of interfering in our Democracy,,,, Bye bye!

I hope the officer who lost his life will get to lay in honor at the capitol as two previous officers did in 1998 who died defending it.
