I would say because sports are generally considered more entertaining? How many people really watch the debates, anyway? I think the 2020 debates didn't even crack eight million viewers, as far as the Democratic debates are concerned. If you're even watching the Primary debates, for the most part, I would say that you're already pretty well-acquainted with who the candidates are and what their platforms are.

The tune-in factor is still a thing on debates. You may deny it, but it is.

Evangelicals, first. The fact is, as far as basic rights are concerned, not only have Social Conservatives LOST, we have reached the point at which they have lost decisively. When you look at the most basic issues of social rights, well over half of Americans are on board--including many Republicans. The time has come to concede defeat and pick another hill. The GOP establishment seems to recognize this, now they just need the religious folks to shut the hell up once and for all.

What "basic rights" do people not have? Sorry, but everyone has their basic rights, whatever that means. What you are probably demanding is "special rights."

So, at least four major parties, but you can't do that right now without essentially conceding any reasonable chance of controlling the Presidency.

So, don't go for POTUS. You think every party in every country has a shot at the top prize? Let the socialists run, they might win a few seats in congress. They they can be dealmakers. They can try to fool people into thinking socialism is a good thing. Instead they are taking over the Democrat Party.

The racing comparison is weird for more reasons than I care to get into, no offense. On the level of the candidates themselves, as people, maybe it is a matter of wanting to prevent further embarrassment. Even if not, Bernie (who was very well-known at that point) still got trounced in a two-man race, and nothing can change that fact. I think just about everyone underestimated how well Biden would do in the South...though most knew he would do pretty well...but hell, Bernie even lost some states in which the demographics favored him and that he was expected to win. By, "Demographics favored him," I mean states that are mostly white.

How is it weird exactly? You quit just days before the race with the most delegates available? When nobody has anything locked up?
I repeat, that is like doing all the work for the Indy 500 then saying, "We can't win, the heck with it!" the night before.

The fix was in.

I don't deny it categorically; I deny that it is sufficient to explain away getting beaten by 3.7 million popular votes in the 2016 Democratic Primary. You talk about missing viewers...what percentage of the total viewership (that there would have been) would need to swing from Clinton to Sanders to change the result? Ignoring new voters, you need 1.85 or so million to directly swing from one to the other.

I don't think any argument in the world changes that he would lose the popular vote for who would become nominee that year. Without the superdelegates, at best, he could have probably fought his way to a contested convention, but one in which he still loses the popular vote by a bit.

I'm just saying what it is. You go there and tell them not to go for POTUS. I'm a Libertarian; I don't ever expect to see anyone from my party win the Presidency anyway.

Maybe they are taking over, but trying to get power within one of the two major parties (again, both made necessary by the EC for POTUS purposes) and essentially take over for a time is nothing new. The Republicans were run by some combination of Right-Evangelical mouth-breathers and big business for how long? The main difference there is they pretty much conceded to one another on the whole social/economic thing and got along with themselves a lot better. I'll give them that. Hell, Santorum might have been seen as a moderate Republican in the early 90's, for one example.

It's weird because you still go into a NASCAR race hoping to finish in such a position that enables you to WIN money. Also, you have to do the race, in cars, on the track. Nothing is going to change that you're getting 3% of the popular Primary vote to getting 40% of it overnight.

There is a practical difference between long-shot and can't win...especially when placing fifth as opposed to sixth (or whatever) still serves some goal.

Also, maybe one or two dropped out earlier than they might have BECAUSE they wanted the vote to consolidate around Biden so that Sanders would lose. It's not like Sanders has ever done any favors for anyone, or even for the party, for that matter.

Maybe it's 50/50, at most, but I tend to think it's the LOUDEST Democrats who want to go full Socialism, not the majority of Democrats. That's not to say that more moderate Democrats don't have Socialistic policies they like here and there...just that I don't think the majority of Democrats are in full lockstep and all agree with every single goal.

Maybe he believes if he has a stroke he will be more likeable to the voters and they might confuse him with Biden.

You've never had your foot go numb and shake it a little as you are walking to try to get it to, 'Wake back up?'

Not while I was walking. Maybe if I was sitting on it.

I've had it happen from standing in the same spot for too long, or just randomly, on rare occasions. I'm pretty much perpetually dehydrated (regardless of my water intake) so that's going to happen to me more often than most people, though.
