Wow, now conservatives want looser libel laws.
Imagine if Obama would have sued Trump for his BC nonsense (it would have been a waste of time, and even if he won, Trump never pays anyway.....) (But this is a claim that could actually be proven).
The idea of a President suing over libel (if it is libel, we don't know). The idea that Bolton's book is a reputable source in the eyes of Trumpians is equally silly, what happened to the book being a false and Trump not trusting what he said? (Oh only the passages that make Trump look good are true?)

Trump is turning conservatism over on its head, no free speech, no social values..... Soon there Republicans will want higher taxes (oh wait they already do).

Also, notice how Republicans love anonymous sources when it benefits them, but think civil action is appropriate against opposing publications that use anonymous sources?

Libel and slander are not "free speech."
Asking a POTUS to produce a birth certificate is not libel.
Saying you do not believe a POTUS is from the USA is not libel.

Saying a POTUS said something he did not say IS LIBEL.

Remember the last time Trump sued somebody for libel for saying his net worth was not in the billions, the case was dismissed because he refused to make his tax returns and asset statement public record? Even back then he did not want to make it public record, makes you wonder....

Libel is very hard to prove (unlike the UK where the burden in on the publisher to prove that it is true), in the U.S. the plaintiff has to prove that it is untrue (which is hard when talking about verbal statements) and prove that it caused a hardship or damage to reputation.

If you think Trump would win that case, well....

And for public figures, it is even harder.

We already have many people saying it is not true. It would come down to them having to show who their source is.

Trump threatens to sue, and brings civil action frequently, how often does he succeed?
He has been successfully sued many times.

Honest question when is the last time he successfully sued anyone? He even lost the helicopter lawsuit (the one where his helicopter malfunctioned and crashed)…… And, that was one of the few legitimate ones I could find.....
He win rate is either zero or close to it. He loss rate as a defendant is tricky because of his settlements, but if you include settlements its high (over 60%). And, if you do win against him, good luck collecting (he does not pay). Sad man..... Win/loss rate = sad.
He is involved in so much litigation it is laughable (and no not comparable to other "billionaires" if he even is one)…..
