He told me that he had to have ‘the talk’ with his pre teen son and daughter. That when approached by police you are allowed to answer in two words. Either ‘yes sir’ or not sir’. Heck, I did not have to have "the talk" because we were told to be polite to those in authority NO MATTER WHAT!

The cop probably does have a reason to stop you. That you might not be aware of. I was once pulled over for my tail lights being out. It was legit. I was just a kid, and I was sure to be polite.

Why do people get upset that black kids have to be told to be polite to cops? Or judges for that matter?

Yesterdays numbers from Worldometers are US Military = 58,058 cases 90 deaths and Veteran Affairs = 54,534 cases 3,109 deaths. The site doesn't define what the difference but I would assume the Veteran Affairs numbers are the vet hospitals.

Because in the real world my son being pulled over for a broken tail light is most likely told to go fix it, while his Black cohort is possibly searched, and just plain subject to more scrutiny than my son. Of course everybody should be polite to the authorities... but if you think the police treat everyone equally you are just plain wrong. I don't have the answers though. The police have learned that the Black youth IS more likely to have committed a crime, or has a weapon, than my son. By real life experience. It must be hard to ignore prejudices which they have seen to be true. It is just unfair to the law abiding Black youth that he gets lumped in with his law breaking cohorts.

You don't see how it would be difficult to be polite if you were pulled over for the crime of "Driving while Black"? If you don't think it happens frequently you are just denying reality.

It further depends. Is the black youth dressed similar and is his car in a similar condition inside and out? Or is the black kid dressed either as a gangbanger or wannabe gangbanger? As you point out, the black youth is more likely to have committed a crime. So perhaps the anger about "the talk" should be directed to the blacks who are giving blacks a bad image instead of the cop who is simply working on a hunch?

Justice can’t apply properly with stereotyping. Wouldn’t matter if numbers support the stereotype by 90%.

Wouldn’t matter if you could prove that 99% of blacks are criminal. Everyone deserves an equal starting point.

The only thing you could claim by doing otherwise is you’re too damn lazy or stupid yourself.

Btw, stereotyping is not using what you actually know about the actual person. A police officer who knows a person has actually murdered a police officer is using actual specific knowledge. He doesn’t have to approach that person as if they aren’t dangerous.

If you think the police can’t operate without that, then let them approach everyone with their gun out ready to shoot. I think we all should enjoy the same risks or fears.
