Anybody see the guy from Stanford
on Fox today? He's says they have
crunched the numbers worldwide
and the world made a mistake
shutting down. Far more people
have the virus, hundreds of
millions worldwide, maybe
billions, and show no symptoms
at all. The vast majority of those
that show them won't need the
hospital. The vast majority who
need the hospital won't die there.

He says open the world up yesterday.

I read the wicked witch is advising retailers not to serve people that don't wear masks. But it's not enforceable by the law.

I went to Meijer this morning. They had signs on the doors saying masks are required, and everyone in the store was wearing one. Didn’t see them have to turn anyone away for not having one so I’m still not sure if they’re strictly enforcing it or not.

Were employees wearing a mask? Last
time I was there not a single employee
had one on

Fox News is telling its employees to work from home for at least another month while its TV hosts push for businesses to reopen

The hypocrisy.

Here is when the country should open, when foxnews opens
Its logical sense

Ed, you are aware that some jobs can be accomplished from home and others cannot? I think the 'open em up' crowd is mostly focused on small businesses like salons, gyms, that cannot have employees working from home. Also big businesses like factories, casinos, etc... Fox News is open. many of their employees can work from home. Many cannot. They wisely choose to keep the minimum necessary to be 'open' on the road. Implying that they want a hair salon to be open means they are hypocritical is just silly.

Makes no sense at all. If you can work from home, work from home. If you can't, get back to work as safely as you can and with consideration for others. Think about keeping others safe. Older people stay home longer if at all possible.

People need to earn money to work. Everything that people need cannot be given to them.

Encourage care in reopening. Handle hot spots as needed.

We can't stay locked down for endless months.

18% drop in chemo treatment for cancer patients...is that a good thing?

People not having life threatening issues resolved...heart stuff, etc.

I became the first person to vote "unemployed", which is interesting as I am pretty late to the poll. I would have thought there would be more, although there is limited membership, so a small sample size.

Also for people who work for an employer there are several similar options, laid off, furlonged, unemployed. I am not even sure the difference in the first two options. I guess has to do with a (non-binding) promise of return to work.

So anyway being self employed and out of work, would normally mean you are on your own. Under these extreme circumstances, self employed qualify for unemployment and although it too a while for states to finally get it set up, I was finally able to filed 7 weeks worth of back unemployment this week and they claim will be receiving payments for all 7 weeks this Saturday. We'll see what happens.

I am sort of torn between the idea of this. On the one hand, I share Wizards thoughts that anyone who is self employed, takes on the responsibility of what happens when they are out of work for whatever reason, or sick or even the responsibility of saving for retirement. That is all part of what it means to be self employed.

But, on the other hands, as a professional player, I make a living in the casinos and the casinos are closed by government order. Under this extreme situation, I do think I am just as entitled as other people that make a living off of or through the casino setting.

Actually, I think the closest comparison to a professional player or professional gambler might be the casino host for this situation. The casino host model varies.. In some cases the casino host works for the casino, usually the marketing department. In other cases the host is a completely self employed 'contractor' type situation. But in either case, all or the large majority of a host's compensation comes from a bonus based on the percentage of action they bring in. So with the casinos closed they aren't bringing in any action, just like a professional player isn't able to make a living. It is kind of an interesting comparison.

Anyway, I don't make the rules. The government says I qualify for unemployment through the Cares act, so I am looking forward to receiving my funds.

State UI benefits are between workers and the state.

But now it seems there is an extra benefit [600 per?] for some such as Kewlj and others.

Should pensioners also be allowed to file for the extra funds?

For one reason, I'm sure these trillions being spent on keeping our economy alive are costing me plenty, and will increase in the future.

If the gov just wants to increase velocity of money, send me some and I will spend it.

Those unemployed because of the shutdown are hurt financially but it is really hurting retirees who can't go back out into the workforce and try to regain their standing.
The last official act of any government is to loot the treasury. GW
