Planning on the Hermitage tour and seeing the Parthenon in the next few days in Nashville
I have asthma
Covid is probably deadly to me

I checked ourworldindata.org to see if we were still declining at the same rate, and indeed as of 31 March we were 31% lower number of deaths than the same day last year.

Suddenly they reported 14,000 COVID deaths on 4 April (an unprecedented number). What's up with that data?

I believe a lot of jurisdictions have gone to weekly reporting from daily. Monday reports could be a pretty common weekly reporting day.

It looks like it was a glitch as it is gone today. Last year at this time deaths averaged 820 for the week and it is now at 593 for the last week.

That doesn't mean a whole lot for the big picture deaths tends to bottom around 4th of July before creeping back up.

Peaks
April 23, 2020 deaths averaged 2233 for the week
Jan 13, 2021 deaths averaged 3403 for the week
Feb 20, 2022 deaths averaged 2604 for the week

Only 23 hospitalizations and six deaths over the past 28 days in unmasked NYC. Globally, daily deaths are down 85% since Feb. 8.

I think it will keep dropping until the summer holidays.

Statistics are way down in BC but most cases don't get reported anymore. Everyone has home tests and if you test positive it isn't even reported. You just stay home until your symptoms are gone or a minimum of 3 days. The government estimates that 50% to 60% of the population has actually had Covid now with Omicron so mild. They arrive at this figure from monitoring the sewage for Covid. That is with a 90% + vaccination rate. They have dropped all restrictions and Covid passport requirements. Unless we get a more virulent type that stresses the hospitals they don't anticipate putting the restrictions back in place.
