If worse came to worse, they’d just reformulate the vaccines. The only people who have anything to cheer about are the vaccinated.

Clearly wearing masks is not making any difference, why people keep going back to that I have no idea.

It makes them feel proactive, like they're doing something. It is effective at stopping the spread of covid. It's not effective for keeping you from getting it. Surgeons wear masks during an operation to protect the patient from getting infected and it works fine. I read that about 90% of the population where's their masks incorrectly, so it's all kind of pointless. All the dealers in the online casino that I play at wear masks and at any given time the mask is only covering their mouth and not their nose. Why are they bothering.
If you take a risk, you may lose. If you never take a risk, you will always lose.

Why then would the already vaxxed have something to cheer about?

This is starting to look like the flu, and the flu shot, one chases the other forever. If I take the flu shot that my doc is pimping, that is for last years flu, correct?

Won't this Covid/Covid vax do the same thing, with the preventative vax never catching up to the current version?

If someone is vaccinated and goes out and gets a big waft of someone else's Covid exhale in their airway, the best they can hope for is it is an older version of the Covid. Unless, I am further behind the 8 ball than I thought.

This explains the ratings of flu vaccines and why, which I think answers what you're asking. If you never get any flu vaccine, then you're certainly putting your health in worse odds overall.

Quote:
How well flu vaccines work (or their ability to protect against a certain outcome) can vary from season to season. Protection can vary depending on who is being vaccinated. At least two factors play an important role in determining the likelihood that vaccination will protect a person from flu illness: 1) characteristics of the person being vaccinated (such as their age and health), and 2) how well the vaccines “match” the flu viruses spreading in the community. When flu vaccines are not well matched to one or more circulating influenza viruses, it is possible that vaccination may provide little or no protection from illness caused by those viruses, but still provide protection against other flu viruses that circulate during the season. When there is a good match between flu vaccines and circulating viruses, vaccination provides substantial benefits by preventing flu illness and complications. .

Each flu season, researchers try to determine how well flu vaccines work as a public health intervention. Estimates of how well a flu vaccine works can vary based on study design, outcome(s) measured, population studied and type of flu vaccine. Differences between studies must be considered when results are compared.

It goes both ways, there is a reason surgical masks are called Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), and usually lumped with eye-pro, gloves, etc when told to don PPE...

Or as this Pre-Covid Study Puts it:

"Surgeons and nurses performing clean surgery wear disposable face masks. The purpose of face masks is thought to be two-fold: to prevent the passage of germs from the surgeon's nose and mouth into the patient's wound and to protect the surgeon's face from sprays and splashes from the patient."

https://www.cochrane.org/CD002929/WOUNDS_disposable-surgical-face-masks-preventing-surgical-wound-infection-clean-surgery

Now to be fair this study finds no correlation between incorrectly worn masks by surgical room workers and increased wound infection, but the second point in the background is the critical one "protect the surgeon's face from sprays and splashes".
In EMS masks are commonly worn for personal protection when there are any potential airborne containments or spraying fluids (in which case also a shield if possible).

The simple fact is masks have long been accepted as PPE when in risk of exposure to airborne diseases, and not perfect (not even respirators), but they do offer a layer of protection (which varies based on the type of mask, cloth masks are probably the least effective, those are more about being courteous to those around you by limiting what your body can expel onto others).

Vaccines have been working EXACTLY as touted! Substantial decrease in likelihood of catching COVID-19, AND, if infected substantially better survival rates.

NO ONE EVER SAID THE VACCINES WERE GOING TO BE 100% EFFECTIVE.

My wife keeps asking me why there are that many people stupid enough to refuse the vaccine. I can’t give her a cogent answer.

Really? You can't tell her they were never tested for long-term side effects and nobody knows what's coming? There will be long-term effects but nobody knows what they are because it hasn't been long-term yet. This is what four or five medical people have told me who have refused to get vaccinated. If you got vaccinated you're basically a guinea pig.
If you take a risk, you may lose. If you never take a risk, you will always lose.
