I didn’t know there was a newsletter!

I don't promote it much. Most weeks I can't think of anything to say.

We are likely going to get where Italy is regardless if it is as infectious as it appears to be. So it is quite possible that your solution will keep the medical system overloaded for longer. The financial stress that the current methods are going to put on the 'pay cheque to paycheque' people could well cause more problems than the disease itself if we expect people to live several months with no income. Most of the people that are in the hospital would do just as well isolated at home. There are no drugs for viral pneumonia which is what is causing the deaths. The people that are being 'saved' in the hospital are those that gain access to a ventilator if they have extreme pneumonia.

I fundamentally disagree with you, but thankfully (if I'm right) so do all of our public health and governmental officials, as more and more things are being cancelled and locked down.

"So it is quite possible that your solution will keep the medical system overloaded for longer"

If we assume that the total number of cases is going to be the same on either path (not necessarily true), then the goal is to *NOT* overwhelm the systems at all. But keep them probably close to capacity, but not over. Yes, this will last for longer. But there will be enough ventilators to go around and enough nurses and doctors that they can get some rest and not work to exhaustion.

But with social distancing implemented, the total number of cases should be lower anyway.

I hear you on the economic disruption. For now we haven't entered total Italy shutdown. Restaurants are still open. The first, biggest steps have been taken which are good, e.g. pretty much all tech companies are starting to enforce WFH and big gatherings, sports, conferences have been cancelled. I support those steps. I hope this will put some motivation into people who live paycheck to paycheck to SAVE a little bit. I don't want this to devolve into an income disparity argument. I know some people don't have a choice and are barely getting by with no discretionary spending. But there is a huge middle ground of folks who live paycheck-to-paycheck by choice, spending a lot on shit they don't actually need. If this can be a wake up call to *THAT* group to shore up their savings a bit, at least some good will have come of this.

Trump closed down travel from Europe to the US.

So why not shut down all flights from South Korea? South Korea has over 7,800 cases. There are still nonstop flights from Seoul to JFK, SFO, and LAX.

Speaking of business, NYC is going to half-capacity audiences for various events. For places that can still run on reduced revenue, it's a better option than completely shutting down. It should reduce the spread, but if you wanted to avoid getting the virus it's only better than arm to arm audience,

I hope you are right and we can both watch this evolve. It is rather nice to have a conversation on this board without it turning into name calling nonsense. Good luck at home, I am driving to Vancouver for the weekend to spend the day at the casino in Richmond which will be about 80% Asian.

Without test kits, it looks like no one is getting infected. Interesting strategy.

Ohio closes all K-12 schools for three weeks.

I’m no fan of Ohio Gov. Mike Dewine, but he’s actually shown real leadership during this crisis and made some very difficult decisions at the proper time. Donny should take note!

I would actually like to hear the answer to that question. Maybe a SK ban is coming, but if so, do it now.

Upstream Ron asked what would you do? I think if we are banning the Schengen country's, it makes sense to ban the UK as well, imo. But maybe the way "they" think is, we are family between the UK and the US. What happens to each happens to both? Can't turn family away. Unless they really are family, then you can say, I love you, lets facetalk, text alot, and see how this blows over before any of us jumps on a plane?

What I want I'm probably not going to get, which is a truthful explanation of where this virus came from, if it is indeed spliced genetically?

I am the poster child for who probably won't survive if I get Corona.

I think that if we as a whole are going to care financially about "us", or realistically, hard choices have to be made, as are being made in Italy. There are only so many ICU units and exhausted personnel to 'man' them. In a crisis, you have to triage. It would be silly to spend another million dollars trying to save me, come to think of it, they probably won't as I have medical directives on file that say not.

Maybe this would be an excellent time to offer "compassionate exit" to those that have sparse chance of surviving, and don't want to die a grueling death by slow suffocation?

I think that it is super messed up, that in order for my life insurance to pay, I have to endure the slow asphyxia [if it comes to that], rather than a quick and painless end.

SK seems to have a good handle on this. Hundreds of thousands have been tested and they are using high tech to track those that have the virus

This question may never get answered. The virus is here. We need to deal with it instead of looking for somebody to blame
