Patients Survive Ventilator, But Linger in a Coma

On April 21, after 27 days on a ventilator, Frank’s lungs had recovered enough to remove the breathing tube.

After the removal, it typically takes hours, maybe a day, for the patient to return to consciousness. The body needs that time to clear the drugs that keep the patient sedated and comfortable — able to tolerate intubation and mechanical ventilation.

And then, on May 4, after two weeks with no signs that Frank would wake up, he blinked. Leslie and her two daughters watched on FaceTime, making requests such as “Smile, Daddy” and “Hold your thumb up!”

“At least we knew he was in there somewhere,” she said.

It was another week before Frank could speak and the Cutittas got to hear his voice.

Frank Cutitta spent a month at Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital. He’s back home now, in a Boston suburb, doing physical therapy to strengthen his arms and legs. .

There’s a good chance people not waking up fast enough were let go during the high volume days of Covid. The open Up crowd would have surely murdered people who might have lived.

They discussed whether letting Frank go, before he recovered and the hospitals aren’t overwhelmed.

If Frank had serious pre existing, they should have asked him before putting him under, what he wanted.

In order for a US citizen to enter China, they must provide proof of a negative test
http://www.china-embassy.org/eng/visas/zyxx/t1812479.htm
This is just the start
The rest of the planet will get the virus behind them
The virus will continue to ravage the USA as conservatives fight masks and social distancing treating the virus as a political issue rather then a scientific issue. Due to politics, this country is incapable of getting this virus behind us
Just has China has done. I believe more countries will follow China's lead and require a negative test from a US citizen before they allow entry.

We have absolutely no idea how many cases China has had.

We absolutely do not know that. If vaccines are a bust the US might be the first country to reach some kind of herd immunity. At the point the rest of the world (except Sweden) will be saying we wish we had let Covid run harder and got it over with.

I do agree with your second line though with a slight modification. The 'world' will be dealing with it for years probably decades.

The number of Covid cases in the US is 6.4 million. Several studies are have claimed that we are only picking up 10% of the cases so almost 20% of the US population may have had Covid by now. Studies are also finding 40 to 50% of the population may have natural immunity. If we pick the optimistic number of 50% have immunity then of the 50% that can catch Covid 20% may have already caught it which is 40% of those that are susceptible to the disease. Herd immunity might be reached before any cure is found.

More cases is not necessarily a bad thing if we can keep the deaths around a 1000/day where they have been running.

0 deaths and 0 cases is not an option for a country of any size. Lockdowns only delay the spread they don't eliminate it.

I'm not just looking at deaths which is absurdly high compared to other countries
We still dont understand this virus which makes it so much more insidious.
Have you seen the studies among survivors
Many are essentially still sick
They may be dealing with life long problems. We simply do not know but it aint looking good
The long haul studies are all scary

Yes some people have a really difficult time after being 'cured' of Covid and may never live a normal life again. I haven't seen the percentage of long haulers but I believe it is a relatively small percentage.

5% of stents fail should we stop installing them. People die on the operating table from a relatively safe procedure. Anytime you are ill there is a risk.
